My first shot of that night. I ignored the metaphor and kept shooting.

[my Explored album]

Location: Historic Gastown

Building: Leckie Building

The lights and colours are constantly changing on this building in different shades of red, purple and blue.

The Leckie Building is a massive cubic seven-storey Edwardian era warehouse/factory building located at the southeast corner of Cambie and Water Street in the historic district of Gastown. Built in 1908 and a large addition to the east was constructed in 1913. Exterior: brick and granite. Internal structure: built of massive timber elements.

Gastown is the historic core of Vancouver, and is the city's earliest, most historic area of commercial buildings and warehouses.

The Leckie Building is representative of the importance of Gastown as the trans-shipment point between the terminus of the railway and Pacific shipping routes, and the consequent expansion of Vancouver into western Canada's predominant commercial centre in the early 20th century

I spotted this Stop sign message in North Fitzroy, best wishes to all my friends who are in the heat of the battle with the second wave.

Also for the Definitely Dreaming week 47 theme of "Negative Space".

Explored! 21 July 2021 # 374

Playing around one morning with bokeh and colour.

And the last of today's photo dump. A stop sign in downtown Yountville.

Its that time of the year again, I have chosen the model already and I am about to cut the cardboard patterns,

Just think few years back I used to make 3 of them,

All is made from sugar, the only non edible is the strings on the electrical posts.

The link bellow has some of my Christmas creations, please take a moment and view them,

if you get an idea I love to know.

Stunning sunset over the border in New York.

The shutter speed and ISO are absurd. I didn't have too much time to fumble with the camera, I just needed that sunset ASAP.

Mack on a neighbor's back fence. I hadn't seen him in a while so opened a can of cat food and then looked out my back sliding glass door to see if he was within earshot. Sure enough, he climbed onto the fence two backyards away. He has very selective hearing.

If I didn't have my camera, no one would believe me.

From last weekend - got to Covent Garden early evening after a rain shower - a cliché scene however when learning cliché is useful. Edited to accentuate the saturation and focus on the individual walking across the stage

I was happy to find that a red truck had gotten into my shot and improved it!

At least two flat tires and a windshield wiper are in need of repair ;-)

All it takes is the right buyer to lovingly restore abandoned and/or tired out old vehicles.

Heavy rains didn't seem to dampen the spirits of this cell phone photographer as he crouched down to capture a photo of his family posed in front of a popular Vancouver landmark.

Another couple passed right on by, seemingly oblivious to either of the two photographers. :-)

World's first steam powered clock

Raymond Saunders' first steam clock was built in 1977 to solve the issue of a steam vent in a popular sidewalk for the renovated Gastown district of Vancouver. Owned by the City of Vancouver, BC Canada

The steam clock's plaque reads:

THE GASTOWN STEAM CLOCK

Designed and built by

Raymond L. Saunders

Horologist

The world's first steam powered clock has been created for the enjoyment of everyone. The live steam winds the weights and blows the whistles. Every 4.5 minutes one steel weight will travel by steam power to the top of the clock. The gravity driven "falling ball" drive was 'engineered' by Douglas L. Smith. Each quarter hour the clock will sound the Westminster Chimes. The large whistle will sound once on the hour. The steam is supplied by the underground system of Central Heat Distributor's Limited. The component parts cost $42,000 and the clock weighs over two tons.

This is the road from the river campground at Fort Clinch State Park. It is called a "canopy road" as the limbs from the old live oaks completely cover the roadway.

Mammatus clouds/storm at sunset, high plains of northeast New Mexico. Shot pretty quickly after pulling off the paved highway and onto a gravel crossroad. The raindrops were already starting to fall - cold and heavy. I stepped out of my vehicle, took this shot, and I bailed!

Shot handheld.

Just a little silliness on Saturday. Baboons and monkeys are always so much fun to watch. Naughty, mischievous and curious they are always up to something. We were stopping at this intersection in Kruger when a whole troop of baboons came running out all over the road. This little one went flying up the stop sign. Madness and mayhem, lol.
