During level flight, with motion generated by wing-beats alone, they can reach speeds between 40-60 mph. This is one of the fastest known speeds for level flight with only a few species of duck, wader and pigeon known to reach similar speeds in comparable flight.

Birds of prey often use a controlled dive known as a stoop whilst hunting. This hunting technique is amongst the most spectacular of wildlife behaviour across the animal kingdom.

The actual speed that a peregrine reaches in a stoop will be effected by the wind speed and duration of the dive, which will vary in every situation. Because of these variables there is not a confirmed top speed however it is thought that it is possible for a peregrine in ideal conditions to reach speeds of up to 200 mph which is phenomenal.

In the days when roads were in even worse condition than we find them today many travellers tried to keep to the higher groundwhere this allowed a more direct route and there were a lot of tracks and paths across the Derbyshire and Yorkshire moors. In 1697 and Act was passed which decreed that in the more remote parts where two or more paths intersected, the local Surveyors were to erect guideposts or guide stoops showing the way to the nearest market town. There was no defined standard and the survivors show a great variety in lettering and size. Some incorporate a pointing hand alongside the place name.

This example is on Beeley Moor and points the way to Bakewell and Sheffield.

I am awfully in love with this old Konica film and just bought the rest I could find at a decent price. It's too bad so many great emulsions have gone the way of the Dodo. I have to say I definitely prefer the look of this stuff to Pro400H or Portra400 personally... It sort of has the best qualities of both of those to me. Guess I"ll have to mae it last.

I have been warning people that they were watching me. I finally figured out how to trick the computer into reveling it. ESET a very good anti virus program helped me and when this is expired I am going to upgrade to the best one. For those folks who are stuck with Spectrum , A.T.T ,Comcast, or dish you have Time Warner which owns all of them. When you call the tech center for help you are talking to someone in India who gives a rats ass about you. Matter of fact I got a new modem to replace the old and it was screwed up when it arrived ( only A.T.T. could do that ) On top of that I had to go above the supervisors head to get that one. ( he was not very cooperative at all ). Right now I probably do not have most favored person status at their tech center. You could say we have a war going on. The redirect app I found was probably the result of my cussing out a few people. Going to have to wipe my computer at a computer store because all the programs that would let reset my computer have been corrupted. There is a program running in the background in a loop that will not close. I only have partial access to my computer. My media player and some other apps are disabled. I can still get on the internet via WIFI so I can in a lmited way look at some of my sites. They have blocked my either net for the new modem and the old modem symbol still operative and I mailed that back to them weeks ago. They have dumped some thing else beside the redirect app in my computer and i can't find it. I am still using all the old modem setting and I don't even have it anymore. Sad ! But there are assholes in the world who do stoop to this level regularly. So as a warning to all who follow me......... BEWARE BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING. Looking at everything that come into my site or what I post and what is being said . I expect to see brown shirts and arm bands at the door ant day now.

In 1697 during the reign of William III an Act was passed which decreed that in the more remote parts, where two or more paths intersected, the local Surveyors were to erect guideposts or guide stoops showing the way to the nearest market town. After all these years the inscription on the stoop has been weathered away.
