At the Stingray City virtual geocache GC6CE7 near Grand Cayman.

The Garmin Legend GPS receiver is waterproof to some extent. If you do this, you must immediately clean the contacts in the battery case and at the computer hook up with clean, salt free, water and then dry it out. Otherwise the exposed electrical potential will corrode the contacts. I'm not sure if it was age or not, but the glue holding the main seal down got very soft after being exposed to water. It did firm up again though.

The brand new C7 Stingray Convertible sits in the paddock at Sebring International Raceway. Its fitting that I see my first C7 convertible here as the first time I saw a C7 coupe was at the 12 Hours of Sebring.

In many parts of the Caribbean such as Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands and Antigua, the southern stingray swims with divers and snorkellers, and are hand fed at locations such as Stingray City and the Sandbar. On Turks & Caicos, they can be hand fed at a location called Gibbs Cay. Some have become tame enough to be cradled in visitors' arms and feed with pieces of cut up fish. This docile and food-reward driven behaviour has led to many locals comparing the hand-fed and belly-rubbed stingray to an over-fed household canine. There are concerns that this feeding, and the high levels of interaction with humans, may be having some negative impacts on their behaviour and ecology.

Not too often does one see such a vibrant coloured car!

Our Daily Challenge: Automobile

Archival data from the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope reveal that the nebula Hen 3-1357, nicknamed the Stingray nebula, has faded precipitously over just the past two decades. Witnessing such a swift rate of change in a planetary nebula is exceedingly rare, say researchers.

These images captured by Hubble in 1996 (left), when compared to Hubble images taken in 2016 (right), show a nebula that has drastically dimmed in brightness and changed shape. Bright blue shells of gas near the centre of the nebula have all but disappeared, and the wavy edges that earned this nebula its aquatic-themed name are virtually gone. The young nebula no longer pops against the black velvet background of the distant Universe.

1970 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

Right when I walked out, and walked down the canal, I saw this little bugger feeding on the rocks by the boat. I have never seen a stingray in the wild, so it was a great way to start off my photographic new year.

Saw this while at The Jetty on the Noosa River.

Stingrays are amazing creatures of the ocean and are always a thrill to see. They can be found gliding over the Great Barrier Reef, the shallows of sandy beaches, or in muddy estuarine swamps.

The danger with stingrays is the barb on their tails. Disturbing a stingray can cause the creature to jab the poisonous barb into your leg, causing considerable pain.

Stingrays lie very flat on the bottom of the ocean, making them difficult to spot and easy to accidentally step on. To avoid this, the best practice of walking through the water is to shuffle your feet in the sand. This will make the stingray move to another location.

Stingrays are very friendly in the Cayman Islands... biggest tourist attraction here. Over 100 stingrays can be found on this sandbar located about 45 mins away from Grand Cayman.

This is a slightly modified '64 Corvette Stingray with sidepipes and an engine transplant. It's also one of my dream cars. It's taken a while to finally finish it and I'm happy with the result.

A few more from the magical place of Nudgee Beach. Really liked how the reflection from the sky turned the sand blue

How do Stingray's hunt for prey? The snout may function as an electroreceptive organ, sensitive to electric charges of prey buried in the ground. Once they find signs of an edible titbit in the sand, they may expose the buried prey by blowing a jet of water from the mouth. They may also flap their enlarged pectoral fins to dig up large shallow holes in sand or mud. On some of our shores such as Nudgee Beach, such 'craters' are seen en masse on the sand bar.
