I finally learned how to do the water thing, now I need to know how can I capture the water like this and still keep my background from becoming blurry like this one? It just isn't sharp enough to me. I see so many of your beautiful photographs and see how you are able to capture the movement of the water and make it seem silky yet almost transluscent in the background and yet you still seem to be able to make the area surrounding the water impecable and so sharp! How is this done. Teach me oh masters of the photographic realm! Seriously, if anyone can tell me I would so appreciate the lesson!

Focused mask of Star-Loard Q-Fiq, illuminated with read light, combined images, two light setups merged for this particular outcome. Flame still disapoints a bit, but the fix would be to modify the figurine itself.

I was playing around with my camera today and found this digital zoom or maybe it was the fine zoom, not sure which, and this is what came out. I realize it is cropped (at the bottom) and off center, but I couldn't believe those wings! This is a mosquito, which to tell you the truth, I've never seen one up close like this before. That zoom is amazing on this camera!
Please view large or original to get the detail on those wings!

this tells me i need to pay more attention to the spirit level, to avoid the crazy distortion. which means not using the viewfinder. which is weird.

I took this months ago, December I think. Crossing the road I saw this really cool mirrored wall, and knew I had to take a photo, so I did :)
Ahhh yes, boredom steps in once again except this time I had to walk away from the thin mints. I think I gained 5lbs shooting that shot yesterday.
Had some fun with the food coloring and making a mess on my dining room table but I'm happy with the outcome :)

Okay, I have seen so many people doing this that I thought I would see if I could achieve the same look and I see I have a long way to go, but at least I did get the effect I was looking for. I just have to figure out how to keep from getting that grainy look. Can anyone suggest what I'm doing wrong here?

I went out last night as it was still snowing... hoping to shoot a specific row of houses that feature a really colorful and festive light display. But once I got there and set up, it became clear that this was not going to be the night for that. Too dark... too snowy (which you might think would be a good thing)... and turns out, to get the shot with the lens I had... I'd have to place the tripod right in the middle of a fairly busy street. Well... didn't happen.
So... I reached into the 'colorful lights from last Christmas' folder... and came up with this. An experiment in hand-zooming during a longer exposure. I remember how excited I was when I first saw this on that small D200 LCD... =) But now... I wish I had some 'earlier in the evening' blue to the background sky... and been able to 'clean up' the dingy snow a bit (in camera... white balance... exposure?). And looking at this now... I'd sure like to have composed things a bit differently...
But still... this feels like festive Christmas lights to me! And THAT... I like! =)

So the girls have a special blanket - seen here in this and the next shot. It is one of two dog blankets - I am not sure what happened to the other one. And I use it on the bed to protect my quilts from their nails, hair and from dirt. Well, when the folks took my bed and all my bedding - this went with it and I just got it back on the bed this morning. I came home after some appts and Stella greeted me at the door but Harley couldn't even be bothered to get off the bed. Tonight....they have been all snuggled up on it. I think that this is the key. Yay. Happy dogs are good things :)
I am still trying this bokeh thing. Same background as last time, but I have a subject this time (sort of)... I will get better, I promise! (crosses fingers)... At least I got to enjoy some of these gummy bears this time. Last batch I bought, I only had ONE and Wiskers ran off with the bag!!! That was about 3 weeks ago, and havnt seen them since! Somewhere in this house, there is a bag of lonely gummy bears!!!
This idea came to me last night and in my mind it looked much better than this but hey I figure i'll put this up anyway.
Obviously this is a before and after series. 2 are within moments of waking up and 2 are the finished product after an hour of showering and primping.
I'm not a morning person and I can certainly tell that on my face. I am excited in the after pics because it's cold enough I can wear a sweater and this is a new one and I think i'm in love with it.
P.S. I never know what to do with my hands....

oil on board 16"x20", (based on the photo before this one but a less processed version)trying to branch out into different subject matter . . .meh, not entirely happy with it but i think i'll move on . ..
*edit* did replace with another pic but this one highlights that the paint was still extremely wet . . .guess I gotta wait for daylight to get a better pic :)
This photo turned out better than most of my moon photos, but I wanted it to turn out like www.flickr.com/photos/rowlespics/7001376212/in/photostream/
