I've always liked photographing this spot but during colder months with the sun so low on the horizon, it's difficult to catch the light just right. On this occasion, I tried for a blended exposure to see how that worked out. Truthfully, the weather was so nice and the scenery so pretty after a fresh snowfall, that it was more about the day rather than the photograph. As an addendum, I posted this photo on Instagram as well and changing to a square format was a bit like trying to fit a round peg into a square hole. However, I have to admit it does force you to look at composition and can produce interesting results. If you’re so inclined, you can see it here: www.instagram.com/p/CI9o5illXVg/?igshid=1s7asei23polu

joy of shooting in morning, still learning, hope you enjoy this one

I thought I would try out the lens that came with my camera and see how it worked. Well, it has no image stablizer so I decided to get out the old tripod and this was the best I could get from my stoop. I know it isn't the most clear but I really love the bokeh so I thought I would share with my friends! This might be one of those shots that looks better in this size than making larger! Just a thought!

Have a great Friday my friends!

Explore, August 21, 2008 - Thanks my friends.

Make a little love. And little it is ;-) , these common bleus are so tiny you have to look very carefully in the meadow where they are hiding. There is a strong wind but they are still flying around.....I think thats amazing.

Ik denk een vuurjuffer maar weet het niet zeker. Gevonden in hetzelfde gebied als de oranjetipjes en het witje.

The lag was real - couldn't get the tats to rez right! oh well, i still love the way this came out! ♥

I hope I didn't overwhelm you all yesterday with my barrage (spelling?) of photos. Some days I get like that. I have so many photos and so little time so when I have an extra minute some days, I just post. I really appreciate that you all took the time to comment on my many photos and today I am back to just posting one shot, maybe two at the most. I just love to share all my photos with my friends and you are all so wonderful to be so gracious about them all!

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend. Hugs to all!

I am always in the woods, even when I'm not there. Somewhere along the trail or off the trail, I find a center, a gravity that pulls everything in and holds steady. My camera bag and water bottle were packed, shoes on, hair in a messy ponytail before I even really recognized this is where I was headed. It was just an unconscious response to an innate need. I had to leave.

Not too far into the trail is the river, and once I found it, clarity found me:

The river was still running. The birds were still singing. The sun still shining. The season is still moving forward.

And I had this overwhelming feeling: I would do anything to keep these woods. To keep these trees standing.

It's also accepting the fact that waters dry up. Birds move on. Trees grow old and storms come along and take them down. And that's okay. What matters is keeping enough of the forest standing for new trees to grow. For more birds to come. For the waters to keep moving.

I'm in my flower fase......trying different things......just for fun

Like I said in previous post, I tried ALL evening to achieve this shot, all different lenses, settings ect. To those that answered thank you!!😊 not the best but I’ll take it.

Happy Bokeh Wednesday - not Happy butterfly Wednesday!! Yep, still bringing out the butterfly pics. My husband is growing weary of butterflies- sorry honey! Bokeh is interesting. I have been trying to learn more about it-like what is good bokeh and what is bad bokeh. What I have read doesn't provide a definite answer. I think it must be very subjective. *sigh* I have LOTS to learn. Have a great day!

Crested tit....yesterday my sister and I went to a forest to photographe Some squirrels. We were in a hide but the light was zo horrible that we decided to get some fresh air, so we took our camera’s and a cup of coffee and wandered around. When we sat down along side of some trees we noticed the crested tit in a small tree on the other side. I do not often see these birds as they don’t live in my area. So I am very happy that I got to shoot this little bird with my new lens.

Get it..DAM...hahaha..I used DAM as a swear word but I was actually at a dam..hot damn.

A redo of the Spoon Bridge from my vacation done with a single photo in photomatix

The typical April weather has been very changeable in the last days and I could see some fantastic rainbows that unfortunately I could not catch. But then I caught a little one here in the field.

I never like to run through such fresh fields and prefer to use the ruts, maybe I should have jumped into the other one.

April 27 118/366 Hope it's a sunny day, wherever you are!

For the Iluminación group: This was shot using natural, diffused morning light (through a window blind). I set a purple African Violet plant on the table (beneath the Gerbera) and shot from above, using the African Violet to create a smooth blue bokeh background.

I used my favourite new toy, the Canon 100 mm macro lens.

The Boyfriend was in town the weekend and after yesterday's devastating Auburn loss to Arkansas (his favorite team) we both felt the need to get out and enjoy some of this beautiful weather we've been getting.

After much advice from a lot of my Flickr friends, we went to Cleveland, Alabama and discovered Mardis Mill Falls. They were gorgeous and I got a chance to practice my waterfall shots. (and yes, I took over 100 photos just trying to get this one...but I'm one of those slow learners so I'm ok with it!)

So I have been attempting the reverse lens technique. This is handheld and boy is that focal length tiny! This is one shot that actually turned out decently but many, many, many, many others have not. I've been keeping my 50 on the camera and reversing my old kit lens. I'm still trying to figure it out obviously! LOL... This is a little snail camped out on this plant that I still don't know the name of. I have taken pictures of it in the past (the plant not this snail).

Have a great day! :)

After a long day of running errands and a late lunch, my husband and I were looking forward to some relaxation. I had gone to one of the rooms on the opposite end of the house, when I heard my husband banging on the door and shouting, “What are you doing, get out of here, shoo, go away!” I ran to see what was going on with thoughts racing through my head of a would-be home invader! At first glance, I didn’t see anyone. Worriedly, I asked, “What happened, who was out here?” My husband replied emphatically and with a worried tone in his voice, “It’s a squirrel and look what it did!” It was then that I saw one of my favorite, clay flowerpots, smashed in pieces, the soil from inside it, and the flowers strewn all over the porch! Next, I noticed the “guilty looking” culprit, a young, Eastern Gray Squirrel, clinging to a Halloween-themed blanket that was covering of an old, small chest-of-drawers used for storing various garden tools that is located on the far side of the porch. The young squirrel was hiding on the backside of the chest-of-drawers, much like squirrels do when they are trying to blend into a tree trunk that they scoot up when frightened. It would move down near the base of its new-found hideout, using the decorative blanket to hold onto. Alternately, it would hide in a wound-up electrical cord that had been placed behind the chest, to which my Halloween lights were plugged into. In addition, you could hear the squirrel rustling around and chewing on an old umbrella that it had also knocked down behind the chest in the commotion. Every now and again it would climb to the top of the chest-of-drawers, to peek out, then dive back down, out of sight. My husband and I tried several times more, to bang on the door, use various long objects including a yardstick, a mop handle, and a painter’s pole to gently nudge it out of it’s hiding place and off the porch, but to no avail! It would squeak, run around the porch in an erratic manner, climb the brick wall, or briefly run off the porch as if to finally leave, then run right back behind the chest-of-drawers. By this time, I was getting concerned that this was not normal squirrel behavior and considering that it could be sick and therefore potentially could bite us if we continued our efforts to drive it away. Our local police department has an Animal Control Unit, so I gave a call to the non-emergency number and had to repeat my story twice to the incredulous dispatcher, who asked, “You have a what and where is it?” She said that she would send an officer over to check it out. No doubt, she was probably thinking I was senile or medicated or both and perhaps taking bets in jest, with the other dispatchers that #1. There was no squirrel and that I was hallucinating or #2. If there was a squirrel, it would be long gone by the time an officer arrived.

Meanwhile, I returned to the door to wait and watch for the officer and take photos of the squirrel as “evidence” of its existence. It actually further “incriminated” itself once, by creeping out to sniff the soil and broken flowerpot, then ran right back to its “hideout! The “Animal Control Officer” arrived within five minutes, wearing his mask, and stepped right up to look for the furry, little marauder, who popped its head up for a brief face-to-face appearance, then promptly hid again. My husband, being concerned for the officer’s safety and not wanting to see him get bit, if indeed the squirrel went on the offensive, suggested he get something that would afford him protection. The officer agreed and returned to his vehicle for a large net on a long pole. Officer B (not his full name, to protect his identity) set to work, moving all obstructions or potential other hiding spots for the squirrel and next moved the chest-of-drawers! The crouched squirrel ran right between the officer’s legs and ran circles around the porch. He gently prodded the squirrel off the porch for a moment, but it ran back up again and crouched momentarily under the bench. He prodded it once more and finally, it fled, but only a few feet away into the flower garden nearby. The officer followed the squirrel, who finally took to a full run, down the street and out of sight! We gave profuse thanks to Officer B, asking him if this was “the nuttiest call he’s ever had.” He replied that it ranked among the more unusual, but that actually he had a call earlier in the day from a lady who had a bat in her attic! He was able to capture it with the very same net-on-a-pole approach that he used to coax the squirrel away. He told us that he kept the bat in the net and drove it out of town to a safer location! All’s well that ends well and no harm was done to the animal or humans! *This is a completely true story!

I'm still playing around with this whole darkness thing. Sorry if this photo is too much like yesterday's but I'm practicing and experimenting. Sometimes, I guess that means playing with the same style for a while to see what comes of it.

I'm trying to decide between this shot and my shot from yesterday as my entry for the Flickr 64 Challenge group. We're down the final 8 and I'm nervous as heck about submitting my entry!!

13th - 19th Feb 2012.

There are words that I must speak and maybe one day I will say them. I am learning to have faith in you. I am learning to put my trust in you. And maybe one day I will understand.

This week has been endings and beginnings. I worked my last shift as assistant manager. I started my first week of classes. I met lots of new people, I got a lovely bunch of roses from work on my last day (which also happened to be on valentines day ha!), I stood outside one late afternoon as the storm broke and the pouring rain began to fall and I embraced being alive. It feels strange to be a student again, and I'm not a fan of sitting down all day in a room but I am learning to handle it and I am learning to concentrate that much. And I have to say it is all very exciting, I cant wait to use the darkroom and the vintage large format film camera and to just get into the practical stuff. I am trying to soak up all of the technical info first though, because being completely self taught I really have no idea. It is surreal to be talking about photos and cameras all day and I am loving it.

My first ever attempt at making water polo images. I still need a LOT of practice.

I did like the way the water came off the ball and athlete's hand as she wound up for a shot.

I'm eager to try again but would like to shoot during the day.

Some of the things I saw during the self critique:

I need to get higher to change (clean up) the background.

The light is still too blue. (I had moved the WB to the Cloudy setting, but it still isn't there yet.

The slight push in exposure helped. (I waffled back and forth all match between +0.3 and +0.7 stops.)

Ahh yay!! As previously reported our hibiscus is back from a bout with spider mites. Line did a great job boosting the plant back into shape! The blooms are all lined up ready to pop so we though about doing a time lapsed video. It's amazing how you get to enjoy the little subtle movements of this living being. Since it's indoors there is no wind so the movement is all from her.. Even the sifting of the whole branch from left to right...

Setup info..

Setting up this shot and keeping the lighting pretty much even through out meant a few re-writes in my head breaking down all the possible failures to get it right the first try.. Wireless triggers nope not so good because what if the batts die.. Battery operated strobe.. nope total length was 18 hours couldn't risk draining the batts.. Ended up connecting an Alien bee 800 via a pc sync cord directly to the d300. Since the AB is plugged in the wall only a power outage could foil my video! :) AB Bounced in 32" umbrella, hot spot of the brolly aimed at the wall. This was taken during a winter storm and high winds hehe!! The things we'll do during cabin fevah!!! oh and the d300 has an timer built in so it was set to take a shot every 15 mins.. Next try I'll set it for 7 minutes and catch the full bloom!

Merry Christmas everyone and stay safe! :D
