NOTE - Nitto in Japan responded to my email in one day and sent me a replacement stem overnight. This was the best response I've ever seen form a bike component manufacturer!

I sent an email to Nitto in Japan with pictures of the stem. They responded the very next day and I received a replacement stem a few days later. The package contained prepaid shipping to return the defective stem.
Nitto is a class operation!

Pink Chilean Bell Flowers
The copihue (Lapageria rosea) is the national flower of Chile. It grows in the forests of central and southern Chile, between Valparaiso and Fresia. This perennial vine, the only species of the genus Lapageria can exceed 10 meters in height by climbing over shrubs and trees.
The stems are twisted, flexible and resistant to time, the leaves are oval-shaped and are hard. On the outside, are dark green and the interior is a little clearer.
His classic flower, bright red (although there may be varieties of pink, white and ivory) is bell-shaped and is composed of six tepals (three internal and three external) and six stamens. The flower can measure more than 15 centimeters long and 10 wide. The copihue reproduces by seed and by layering selected classes and cutting.
Due to its slow (takes over 10 years to flower) and its high commercial value, the copihue is in danger of extinction, as has been declared "protected species" by the Forest Act.
