Introduced cool-season annual hairy herbaceous C3 legume. Stems are erect or decumbent. Leaves have 3 leaflets; leaflets are obovate, 8-15 mm long x 6-10 mm wide and finely toothed. Flowerheads are rounded heads, about 20 mm wide and 20-40-flowered. Flowers are pea-like and 15-17 mm long, with pink to purple petals. Pods are 1-seeded and included in the calyx. Flowers in spring. A native of southern Europe and northern Africa, it is a sown pasture legume. Adapted to mildly acid and alkaline sandy-loam and loam soils. A productive forage and tolerant to heavy grazing in medium-low rainfall areas. Suited to self-regenerating ley systems or short-term phase farming. Produces high yields of seeds with low-medium levels of hardness. Ideal companion plant in mixtures with other legumes such as subterranean clover or serradella.
Stems. This flower arrangement was given to us by the lovely people upstairs when they decamped for an extended vacation. I expect they'll want the vase back, but I'm enjoying it in the meantime. TMY400, Hasselblad 501C, 16mm extension tube.

The National STEM Guitar Project, in partnership with NSF Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Centers with funding provided through a grant from The National Science Foundation (#1304405), hosts innovative Guitar Building Institutes around the United States. The 5-day institutes, combined with additional instructional activities comprising 80 hours, provide faculty training on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) for middle, high school, and post-secondary faculty. The institutes present and teach participants hands-on, applied learning techniques to help engage students and spark excitement for learning STEM subject matter.
Nationwide, there are increasing concerns from businesses about the supply of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics trained workers. Science and math test scores in the U.S. are among the lowest around the world.
The goal and objective of the STEM Guitar Building Institutes is to showcase a new way to present learning for students with applied methods.
