This is now my 500th picture that I uploaded to Flickr :)
That's a good reason to look at bit at the statistics. The viewer count is at 435.000 now. I never ever expected to get so many views when I opened my Flickr account. Thank you all a lot your support!! :)
When looking at the statistics I also noticed something strange about the Flickr Explore and wanted to know if you are having similar experiences with it. My experience is, that it's exactly one year ago that I got my last picture into Flickr Explore. Until this moment I had already (if I didn't miscount) 376 pictures uploaded on Flickr and 26 pictures of them made it into Explore which is about 1 of 14,5 pictures. During the last year I added 124 pictures and none of them got into explore anymore. Just wondering if you are having similar experiences with Flickr Explore?
Well I hope you like this shot, it's taken from the same mountain as my last shot.
A friend and I ran into this Killdeer at the Esquimalt Lagoon last week. Unfortunately this bird is nesting right in the middle of a gravel path that receives a lot of walking/running traffic. I fear that the chances of successful nesting are really slim. I wonder if there is any statistics on their successful rate of nesting? There was 4 eggs on the ground. View large for greater details.

93% of the residents in Lapu village is Gurung according to the 2011 government statistics. Gurung people is an ethnic minority occupying 2% of the population of Nepal. They speak a Tibeto-Burman language like most of the ethnic minorities in Nepal. They are related to the peoples in Tibet, Indo-China, and Yunnan Province of China.
Economic situations of the ethnic minorities in Nepal differ considerably depending on respective ethnic groups. Newari people who are dominant in the Nepal business circle is the richest. Thakalis and Sherpas who often engage in tourism businesses are also richer than the Nepali majority who are dominant in the politics.
Economic situation of Gurung people is not as good as the above but is better than the national average. Mercenary as Gurkha soldier has been their traditional livelihood, and their remittance is important for Gurung villages.

1 i am currently working on one of those "my favorites" collages where it's made up of all other flickrites photos and i credited them and link them so you get hands on to their brilliance. good idea? ohhyahh:) haha. the theme and who will be featured is secret so HUSH:)
2 i am going to get the lovely bones in about thirty minutes and my excitment to read that book is at an unearthly magnitude. i. cant. wait.
3 i am utterly and completely fascinated by hipster things. like beanies, nail polish, tattoos, piercings, glitter, hair styles and colors, glasses, clothes, belts, anything and everything remotely just amazing. i can sit on tumblr for hours looking at those kinds of photos. i just find it all so intriguing and i love it.
4 i cant stand when people hate on the mothers. how many times a day do i hear "i hate my mom" or "my mom's a bitch" or something remotely pesimistic towards a mom. it irratates me. and their reasoning is always the same "she's mean to me." okay big whoop if you fight with your mom. my mother and i argue ALL THE TIME. on a daily basis. sometimes hourly, depending on the day of the week. but i would never call my mother a bitch. i would never say anything cruel about her. i might say i'm mad at her but that's my limit. i love my mother. same goes for my father and the way i feel when people despise their dads. be grateful for your parents.
5 i cant wait for chirstmas. like i usually get excited, but this level of excitment is foreign to me. but i like it. a lot! haha.
6 i want to see the justin bieber movie at midnight whe it come out so freaking badly. like it's madening how badly i wanna see that movie at 12:01 when it's released

Once upon a time, according to statistics, Amsterdam had half a million bikes, and every year a million got stolen...
Stolen bikes were so cheap, that if your bike got a flat tyre, it was easier to throw it in the canal and buy another one, which obviously some folk did.
Not sure how things are now, and if they still dredge the canals to keep the waterways free of old bikes.

Most of the elephants were killed in the north-eastern part of the reserve, bordering Mozambique. While concentrating on protecting the Rhinos against humans the poaching of elephants is escalating. Deerfield’s pier has always been considered the city’s icon, and like all old-timers, it, too, has a few “fish” stories.
The pier’s real beginning is somewhat of a mystery. While the first pier was here in the early 1950s, no one seems to know for sure what year it was actually built or who owned it, though the story goes that the 617-foot pier was privately built. Back then, it was open 24/7, had a rickety boardwalk, an old beat-up bait shack, was run haphazardly and was quickly getting a reputation as a boisterous “beer pier.” Then in October of 1956, a thirty-year-old Mt. Vernon, New York, native by the name of Robert Jahn, who made his fortune in real estate, purchased the pier for $250,000. Joe Cass, a local known as “the-man-who-fished-all-day,” was hired as the pier’s manager.
Joe took down the beer signs and put up fishing signs. He built a restaurant, a new tackle shop that had all the markings of a Fifth Avenue store, and hired knowledgeable staff. But the pièce de résistance was his chum machine at the end of the pier. In it, he threw hamburgers, fish heads, and a mixture of oil and oatmeal. The slick brought fish to the pier by the hundreds and kept fishermen coming back.
A five-foot, 80-pound barracuda named “Sammy” lived under the pier. Joe considered him a “pet.” Then there was a one-day catch of 300 Spanish mackerel and a single afternoon when 150 three-pound bluefish were taken in. There was also the 500-pound female hammerhead shark that hung out at the end of the pier molesting the fish and ruining the fishing. It took Ralph Wickline three hours to reel in the darn thing that measured 11 feet and 10 inches. Just as he was about to beach the huge fish, she gave birth to thirteen 19-inch youngsters who immediately swam out to sea. Her words, “I’ll be back,” wafted on the breeze.
In September of 1960, hurricane Donna wiped out the pier, sending its planks floating north toward Boca Raton. Now without its icon, Deerfield residents and city commissioners proposed a bond issue to rebuild the pier. On August 1, 1963, the new 720-foot pier with his concrete pilings was dedicated. The first lessees were James Scarry and William Kahe. Unfortunately, there were unable to make a go of it. Four different parties subsequently leased the pier, all turning it back to the city as unprofitable. In 1968, Charlie Thompson, who people said didn’t know a fish from a pelican, leased the pier. He also returned it to the city in 1971, then became its manager.
He moved pier income from red to black for the first time in 1972 with revenues of $74,955. No doubt this was accomplished by his personable and knowledgeable staff, fishing contests, special events including weddings, burials (people actually scattered ashes of their loved ones off the end of the pier!) and births (at least one that’s documented), and his ability to “sell” the pier as a primary tourist destination. Income rose steadily after that. In 1976, $128,318 was collected and in 1978, income rose to $170, 973. All with a $.50 admission for sightseers and $1.25 for fishing, along with annual passes. Income topped $248,400 in 1985, the last year Charlie published revenue statistics.
Charlie was proud of all his accomplishments, but the biggest thrill during his tenure at the pier was the 1976 visit by President Gerald Ford. When Charlie learned that the president would be coming through South Florida, he wrote him a letter inviting him to come to the Deerfield pier. Charlie was most surprised to find out the Commander in Chief would actually come. After 20 years managing the pier, Charlie retired in 1988.
One final story remains. It’s about the nun who fell off the pier. Though details about where and how are a bit sketchy, and Joe Cass never got her name, he said she was a good sport – “wet habit and all.”

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One # to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other # to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days # staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow # a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left # I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However # I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous # unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One # to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other # to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days # staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow # a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left # I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However # I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One # to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other # to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days # staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow # a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left # I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However # I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous # unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One # to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other # to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days # staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow # a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left # I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However # I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous # unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

I was allowed to bring to the final exam for my third year Stats course at Laurier. Hey, they told us to bring in one page, with anything written on both sides as an aid. Going into Stats, I was assured it was an easy credit, but it was the hardest thing I'd ever taken (I'm not a math person). Studied longer for this than any other course in my life, and I am still grateful for the C that I received but didn't deserve. It was the worst of my grades in university but the most satisfying. Yes, I saved the sheet.

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One # to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

I face myself to change tomorrow # a vague day into something certain.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left # I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However # I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous # unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

However, looking at statistics in Canada (September 2021 prior to the OMICRON variant surge), 1.8% of COVID cases were fatal. If the survival rate was as high as 99.97% as they claimed, with the 1.53 million cases that took place in our country there should have been only a few hundred deaths. But in reality, over 35 thousand COVID deaths have occurred in Canada prior to the OMICRON variant that is still underway (third most common cause of death in 2021). Deaths in USA are now approaching 1 million and five and a half million deaths worldwide. More have died from COVID in 2 years than in the past 30 years from Influenza! In addition we don’t know the long- term effects of COVID for those that survived but have ongoing suffering.
We were extremely fortunate to have the mRNA COVID vaccines. The reason why they were created so quickly was because the vaccine had been developed safely back in 2003 for the SARS epidemic. That disease burned out before vaccines became available but research continued allowing for the remarkable achievement of having a vaccine ready for clinical use and safety within a year of the COVID virus being identified.
What is true about the benefits of the mRNA vaccine is this: against the original China Wuhan strain it showed a staggering 95% protection against the infection. Of course with the new OMICRON variant it’s efficacy has waned, but new data proves that when boosters are added it still shows 95% effectiveness against death from COVID-19. Proof in the USA, the vaccine saved more than 1 million lives as of November 2021.
What is fortunate about this virus is the relative lack of severity and death in children. With current evidence the greatest severity is in older people. Infected individuals over age 75 are 20 times more to be hospitalized and 200 times more likely to die from it compared to people 19 to 29 years old. But what if children suffered more? No doubt if similar mortality affected them the effects on society would have been catastrophic and the Freedom Trucker convoy would likely not have taken place. Look back to the H1N1 influenza pandemic of 1918-19, Spanish Flu, that notoriously struck down the very young and those in the prime of their lives. Back then as high as 100 million deaths occurred, with peak influenza deaths at age 28 and under age 5. Goods given immunity definitely did not work for them.
Obviously the Freedom Trucker convoy is expressing outright hostility and opposition to the vaccine. It should be noted that in the past where immunization rates have dropped rates of disease and deaths have often increased. For example, in Ireland where they dropped measles immunization in 2000, the disease incidence went from 148 cases when vaccinating in 1999 to 1,200 cases when unvaccinated plus many more deaths of children.
There are lessons to be learned here as the next pandemic may be worse and cause more harm to children. So what do we do? We need to carry on with public health infrastructure in Canada and the world. Unlike the Freedom Trucker convoy protest we must follow anti-virus protocol and scale up, not down, for the next pandemic. We need to invest in novel treatments, vaccine development, pathogen sequencing and outbreak surveillance as we have done up to now. We need to ensure that PPE and masking is maintained and ready to be deployed again when necessary. Plus reinforce our healthcare workforce.
Getting back to the bizarre Freedom Trucker statement that “God Given Immunity Works Best” it's false as historically pandemics kill many, especially children, but vaccination saves many many more!
Well, it's better late than never as they say!
My comment on last year's recap seems to have made the Flickr creative team give up on the whole idea: after their weak attempt with the #MyFlickrYear highlights card, there was nothing similar this year-round.
Anyways, here is my rendition of my #2022 with some extra data collected from outside of the platform. One could say that many of these stats are just indicative of quantities, not quality.
And I'd completely agree because that's not the point: seeing how these numbers change from one year to the next just fascinates me for some odd reason. For instance, it's interesting to see that the number of drone pictures I took doubled compared to last year, but while only spending ~13% more of my free time enjoying the hobby, I travelled almost 50% more kilometres inland by train to the different shooting locations.

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One, to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.

I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left, I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left, how many times did I depend too much on her, doubt her, envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However, I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me, a guy filled with ambiguous, unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

『新しい風は、いつも地下から吹いてくる』 ～ モスインライラックの活動休止に添えて ～
３０年ほど前、空前のバンドブームというのがメディアを席巻した。
ド下手で、リズムすらろくにキープできないようなバンドが、音楽の中身なども関係なくもてはやされ、身ぐるみを剥ぎ取られるようにして消費され尽くした。
まだ２０代前半だった僕にも理解できるド下手バンドが、なぜ評価を得られたのか。技術や楽曲の力ではなく、メディアの空気そのものに煽られ、バンドの名が知れ渡ってゆく。
「所詮音楽とは、ショービジネスさ」
大昔、ソロになったばかりのポールウェラーが或るインタビューでそう話していた。
音楽とは、金の成る木だ。金さえあれば、バンバン広告打って、いくらでも制覇できる。
しかし、それは束の間の出来事で、継続は決してされない。
バンドブームがまさにその良い例で、脳のない、センスのないバンドはやっぱり淘汰されていった。
そんななかで、僕が東京に居た頃に記憶に残っているのは、Xとルナシーだ。
このふたつのバンドは、当時のライブハウスでも名を馳せた。
僕がアルバイトしていたレンタルレコード屋さんにもやはりバンドやってる方がいて、Xといっしょにステージに立ったと熱く語っていた。
自分のバンドとはまるで比較にならないほどの技術、演奏力、表現力で、足元にも及ばなかったようだ。
しかし、彼はそれを自分のことのようにとても楽しく話していた。
ルナシーについてもやはり僕がバイトしていた別のレコード屋さんで、追っかけをしている女の子（すごく可愛い:)）がいて、やはり夢中になってバンドの良さを語っていた。
前者のバンドと後者のバンドの差は、血が通ってるかどうかだと思う。
上っ面だけで体裁よくコマーシャルに形成されたバンドと、小さなハコから叩かれて、のし上がってきたバンド。
どちらが本物かどうかは、僕がここに書くまでもなく、この現時点で結果は出ている。
もちろん、モスインライラックは後者にあたる。
モスインライラックは、この約６年間を走り抜けてきた。
ただ僕が知っているのはこの一ヶ月間程度のことであって、それ以前についてはユーチューブでしか知らない。
途中、メンバーチェンジがあり、現在のメンバーで固めるまで、おそらく大変だったと思う。
僕が今回撮ることになったのは、東京ビッグサイトのデザインフェスタで、マネージャーさんが僕の展示に足を止めたことだ。
マネージャーさんは、開口一番、こう言った。
『構図が違う』
僕の作品を見て、この一言を言うのは、美大生と広告会社関係、ギャラリー関係の方がほとんどで、バンド関係はいっさいなかった。
マネージャーさんは、『うちのバンド、撮っていただけませんか？』と丁寧に話された。
スマフォでモスインライラックのPVを観て、曲を聴き、普通にかっこいいと思った。
実はあまり報告はしていなかったけれども、ときどき、ビッグサイトでゴスロリ系の女子が僕の作品に足を止めてくれていた。
彼女たちはなぜかとても華奢で、色白であり、愛らしい。ぱっと見、被写体としては申し分ないのだけれども、なぜかそれ以上に僕からは踏み込めなかった。
僕はマネージャーさんと別れてから、もう一度、自宅でゆっくりモスインライラックの映像や楽曲などをチェックし直した。
僕のサイトを見てる方はご存知のように、この手のロックはいつも写真のテーマに合わせて採用していない。
僕の写真にはやはり合わない。なので、僕は撮影について辞退しようかとちょっと考え込んだ、ということはいっさいなく、ぜひ、やってみたいと思った。
僕は音楽とは音がすべてだと思っている。
PVなど他の飾りはいっさい要らない。
楽曲を聴いて、ピンとくれば関心を持つし、ピンとこなければまるで無関心。こんな状況で、
モスインライラックの音楽を僕は何度も聴いて1回目の撮影に臨んだ。
CDやストリーミングなどとは異なり、実際のライブはグルーブ感がまるで違う。
バンドのうねりというのは、そう簡単には生み出せない。
白を黒に変色する力。これはそう簡単には表現できない。場数がすべてを支配する。そのぐらい書いても過言ではない。
役人の机上の論理がクソに思えるのはここにある。
日常の退屈を、一瞬で塗り替えることができる。これがバンドの存在意義だ。
退屈でなければ悲惨な事故や事件は減るだろう、僕はずっとこの考えを根底に持っている。
だからこそ、アートは大切なのだ。
だれかの悲しみや痛みを拭い、楽しさや元気に変える。
これが音楽であり、アートだと真剣に思う。
２０１９年１１月１日を持って、モスインライラックは休止する。
けれども、バンドのメンバーがそれぞれの意思を持って、活動し続けるようだ。
僕はこのバンドに関われて、とても光栄でした。
ライブハウス。ハコ。
ここからすべてが始まる。
昔、僕が知ってるミュージシャンがこう話していたことを今でも僕の胸に秘めている。

僕がこのバンドを知ったのは、最後の数ヶ月だけれども、出会えて、ほんとうによかったと思っています。
