Oberpetersdorf is a district of Kobersdorf in the district of Oberpullendorf. According to Statistics Austria, the population is 596 inhabitants (1 January 2021).

Oberpetersdorf is largely overlooked by the Catholic church built on a hill. The quiet and wooded surroundings of the village are the ideal area for those seeking relaxation.

A deed of donation by the Hungarian nobleman Pousa from 1222 confirms the existence of the village of Oberpetersdorf. This document describes exactly the boundaries of the domain of the Hungarian King Andrew II; in it, the current Oberpetersdorf, for the first time "villa petri comitis", the village of Count Peter, is mentioned in a document.

Around 1302, the Counts of Mattersdorf Simon II and Michael acquired Oberpetersdorf for 200 Viennese denarii. In 1346, the possessions of the Counts of Mattersburg were divided among the descendants of Nicholas the German and Nicholas the Hungarian, which marked the beginning of the decline of the family. When the territory of the Kobersdorf lordship came to the Forchtenstein counts, Oberpetersdorf and the area of the later Kalkgruben were united with the Kobersdorf lordship. In 1445, Count Wilhelm von Forchtenstein pledged Kobersdorf Castle with the Pertinence Oberpetersdorf to Duke Albrecht of Austria, who in turn sold it to Emperor Frederick III in 1451. This marked the beginning of the Habsburg period for the community, which ended in 1626. In 1452, as a result of a further pledge, the lordship of Kobersdorf passed to the Weißpriach family, who initiated a change of faith in our community through their inclination towards the Reformation. Weißpriach joined the Reformation with other Austrian nobles,

and from 1564 Johann Csóron de Devecser was Baron von Kobersdorf. Around 1568, he founded Lindgraben, Tschurndorf and Neudorf. In 1585, Oberpetersdorf was divided between the daughters of Csóron. As a result, the property splintered among the heirs and the Csóron family died out. In 1638, Johann Kery took over the reign. In 1683, his son Franz Kery and the administrator Andreas Miklossy forced their subjects to convert to the Catholic faith by force. In 1704, the Kobersdorf estate was acquired by Paul Esterházy. Today, the Esterházys still own large areas of agricultural and forestry land, which are managed and managed by the foundations.

Until the introduction of compulsory schooling in 1769, the children received their education in parish schools. From this time on, all children of the neighboring communities attended the Protestant or Catholic school in Kobersdorf. In 1888, a farmhouse was bought by the Protestants in Oberpetersdorf and converted into a school for their children.

In the post-war period, the municipality and interest groups tackled a number of projects, such as: in 1950 the electricity supply, in 1952 the wooden belfry was replaced by a solid structure, in 1959 the community cowIn 1957 the milk collection point, in 1958 the first rescue car and a motor pump for the local fire brigade, in 1960-62 the new construction of the elementary school, the start of construction of the sewer system for the drainage of the local area and the construction of the new sports field, in 1964 the start of road construction, in 1967-69 the construction of the community center with 3 apartments. 1970-71 the further construction of the local road, the construction of the local water pipe, the expansion of the sewer systems and the gradual expansion of the municipal roads. Completion of the road expansion at the end of 2002. Handover of a new rescue vehicle for the Oberpetersdorf volunteer fire brigade in May 2003.

The last 30 miles or so was hard work. We completed this ride 5 times now. Every time it was has been a different experience - easier, harder. We've arrived much earlier, and a little later. I always like riding in the pitch black, which doesn't long at in the middle of summer.

And now for some 'navel-gazing,' as it were.

As of 26 August 2023, my images on Flickr have been viewed twelve million times. To put that in perspective, I joined Flickr seventeen years ago, in 2006. Since then, I have uploaded 24,841 images for public view. That averages to approximately 705,000 views per year of the 1,460 images I upload per year.

When I began posting photographs and images to Flickr, most of my uploads were 'beer-centric' (often for use at my blog). Since 2016 or so, however, my emphasis has shifted toward nature, 'artsy,' and street photography, if not always successfully so. And, concurrently, the number of my images featuring 'good fermentables' has dropped precipitously.

All of these statistics and observations may be components of a dubious milestone but, nonetheless, I thank all who have visited my Flickr site and all who have 'faved' and/or commented upon my images.

PS. The PRO designation? It means that I pay Flickr for the privilege of posting images there.

I'm a big fan of Flickr Commons, but sometimes it's hard to get a feel for just how much there is in it.

So I've been using the flickr API to create an interactive map, timeline, and this small web app that produces summary stats both for The Commons as a whole, and for individual members (currently 56 of them).
