Flickr statistics reported that my picture of a turkey had 211k views yesterday. And Google was the referrer. That could make sense since it is a Thanksgiving photo. But it feels like either a mistake or a testament to the power of Google search. Given that today Google continues to refer to that photo but at more normal levels, I suspect a glitch.
Has anyone experienced a similar thing?
Whew. The year is ending and went through all my published Flickr photos published this year.
From those I selected 52 photos and created separate photo album of those.
Please check out the Year 2014 album.
As a statistical information, I processed and published 387 photos in Flickr this year. Nowadays it seems that the post-process eats at least the same amount of time than the actual shooting... but that also means it increases the time spent on learning as the selection of photos and how to process them are as infinite subject to study as the shooting.
According to Flickr statistics, my photos have been viewed 380 000 times. Thank you all for that!
Let's hope next year will be at least so awesome as this year for all of us =)
Long exposures of moving water create interesting effects, instead of seeing the water, we see a visual representation of the statistical distribution of where the water has been during that period of time.
Some Interesting Statistics about the Kelpies:
5.5 kilometres of steel were used for the ‘skeleton’.
Each horse is 300 tonnes.
The foundations are 30 X 35 metres deep.
There are 990 ‘skin’ plates.
1 Horse is 26.5 metres/ 87ft and the other 30 metres/ 98ft high.

Cozumel is an island and municipality in the Caribbean Sea off the eastern coast of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula. San Miguel de Cozumel is the largest city in Cozumel and according to some statistics the 3rd largest cruise port in the world.
It was so exciting getting my first photo in Explore (Dec 1, 2012). People from all over were faving and commenting. I really enjoyed it.
So, I set out to figure out how to do it again. I found advice in the FAQ: take good photos, add tags and location, limit the number of groups to 5 - 15. I also found advice that said to avoid Award Groups. I have done that, but I also see photos in both Explore and Award Groups.
I actively joined the Flickr community ranging far and wide in Flickr groups adding comments and faves where they seemed to fit. If someone gave me a fave or a comment, I always visit their photostream and find a way to interact with them. I have built good Flickr friendships with people who provided good feedback and inspiration.
And it happened! I got into Explore again. And it was exciting all over again.
Over time, I started noticing some patterns. The biggest pattern is the lock out period. Flickr seems to allow 7 or 8 photos into Explore in any 60 day period. You can clearly see it in the chart.
I am still working on what makes the difference between low and high. Some photos just seem to catch fire. Others get into Explore down in the 400s and then drop. But I have not noticed a dramatic difference in the early levels of comments and faves. But once a photo gets upward momentum, it often gets many faves and comments.
I enjoy Explore, but understand that it is only a machine algorithm. I much prefer the interaction with real people. But if you are interested in Explore, here is what I have found.

Ignazzoid and his news cyborg girlfriend had been a couple for some time now, Ignazzoid was a Insecotoid (according to capital-planet ethnic statistics) or as his species would like to call themselves Bzzz--ZZ--sschss or as the ethnic slur would have it a: Buzzer...
...anyhow because of various biological reasons they were a childless couple... they were poor and lived in a shack down the lover levels, they ran a small business selling rinsed ad recycled technology they found in the suers...
one day they found a bag of credits which a one-in-a-million lucky shot...
they decided to pay there rent to the N´nugulian mafia for two years in advance,,,
they still had some money left so Ignazzoid said to his partner:
- Hey Rivetta, what do you say, I mean we have been together for quite a while now but never had a day out drinking and dancing...
Rivetta said: Yes Darling, a romantic day out just relaxing drinking to our stupor and dance and drink and puke and then dance and puke some more and talk to people other than our costumers! Oh Darling we are gonna have so much fun...
So the couple did as they said and took their first day ever off collecting tech from the stinking underground suer mega-pipes stuffed with the higher levels waste products...
They bought perfume by a local dealer and two 5 liter containers of moonshine from the same sleazy mutant dealer...
...as they said: the perfume is needed to disguise our foul stench from working in the suers and loads of moonshine is needed to intoxicate Rivetta´s cybernetic body and the alien gut of Ignazzoid that is highly resistant to any form of human toxins... leisure one even so!
...after dancing to an old vintage tune they had found on an old mp3 stick from the happy double zeros, the only music they had they said:
Now, now it is gonna happen, we are drunk we are happy and in the mood, lets go out and let our bionic legs work that dance floor...
The knew a illegal disco close by know as the Noise-maze the played noise from electronic noise bands from vintage times like, T-stallion, Nurse with wound and Marlene Diedrich and so one...
when they had stood in queue the for two hours they reached the anti-sound-wall and the entrance the bouncer said:
- Organics only and pointed to their bodies!
Rivetta replied:
But my head and brain is organic and that is what counts isn´t it?
...and when it come to my beloved hubby his species all have bionic lower parts, since they are born without limbs or any other natural way to move about, that is why they fuse them with bot-bodies at birth...
- Eh well, you lady your head is allowed inside, just leave your body int the wardrobe with your bag and other belongings... and you alien guy if your are fused with that exo-body I cannot allow you in...
..they both left in anger...
...then they had an idea: there is an illegal droid-noise-bar next to suer-pipe 2323999b in sector five since the organics won´t have them why not get friendly with the artificials, they had many bot costumers and they were all friendly and polite...
...so on towards the Disco called Drone astro floor...
ok, there was a queue there too...
so 2 hour later they reached the two bouncer-droids...
One had hooks for hands the other one a huge squid-like chunk of a bot...
the big one looked at the couple from top to toe then his optic-sensors rolled around behind his screen as if he did some kind of thinking with really huge and heavy piece of programing... then it said:
- Beep, Beep, calculation and bioscan done: result: Body of female can enter, but fused insectoid-borg cannot, since he is fused with the organic tissues...
Then Ignazzoid said: oh please not again, we just want to have fun, I mean look at us over 50% of our bodies are mech´s no one would tell us apart from a droid, please or if not, please just turn of the anti-sound-wall for an hour, we can dance outside here, and hey look at that Cyber-saur over there it must have a ton of organic tissue on it... much more than the few kilos we possess!
The Huge robot looked towards the hooked one and said:
- Hooker, Tell Them: rules: facts: please/thanks!
The other tinier and more human speaking robot named hooker replied:
- well, that cyber-saur is just parked here by his owner who is a bot... and sure we could probably let you in but if we start gnawing away at the rules, we would loose costumers, I mean what bot would come to a place when all it wants is to get away from their organic master for a brief moment, ...and I mean what would happen if they came here and the place would be full of organics, I mean that would be no relaxation at all...
the big robot agreed by saying:
- Beep, Beep, Hooker: Right! but Beep, Offer we can Make: 50 Kreds!
The smaller bot translated his bouncer-bot friend:
- Yeah well Octo says that for 1 minute we can deactivate the anti-sound-wall so you can dance outside, we can hmm, blame it on a temporary glitch, 50 kredit Please!!!
so the couple payed the bots, but non of them felt like dancing any longer, the listened to the noise, but what hurt them the most was that behind the noise the could hear bots enjoying themselves talking, laughing and chatting...
Then they went home and slept and the next day they went to work filtering the pooh and pee of the upper levels with a huge hangover... and both kind of wishing they wouldn´t find another valuable treasure!!!

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

"The Annex is a neighbourhood in Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Toronto (/təˈrɒntoʊ/ tə-RON-toh; locally [təˈɹɒɾ̃ə] or [ˈtɹɒɾ̃ə]) is the capital city of the Canadian province of Ontario. With a recorded population of 2,794,356 in 2021, it is the most populous city in Canada and the fourth most populous city in North America. The fall of 2022 I did my 3rd major cycling tour. I began my adventure in Montreal, Canada and finished in Savannah, GA. This tour took me through the oldest parts of Quebec and the 13 original US states. During this adventure I cycled 7,126 km over the course of 2.5 months and took more than 68,000 photos. As with my previous tours, a major focus was to photograph historic architecture.
On this trip I had a surprise 4 day layover in Toronto.

Main story
There are two reasons why a person faces the sea.
One to enjoy a slice of shine in the sea like children bubbling over in the beach.
The other to brush the dust of memory like an old man who misses old days staring at the shine
quietly.
Those lead to only one meaning though they do not seem to overlap. It’s a rebirth.
I face myself to change tomorrow a vague day into something certain.
That is the meaning of a rebirth.
I had a very sweet girlfriend when I was 18.
After she left I knew the meaning of gentleness for the first time and also a true pain of loss. After
she left # how many times did I depend too much on her # doubt her # envy her and keep on telling lies
until I realized it is love?
I wonder whether a nobody like me could have given something to her who was struggling in the
daily life in those days. Giving something is arrogant conceit. It is nothing but self-satisfaction.
I had been thinking about such a thing.
However I guess what she saw in me was because I had nothing. That‘s why she tried to see
something in me. Perhaps she found a slight possibility in me # a guy filled with ambiguous unstable
tomorrow. But I wasted days depending too much on her gentleness.
Now I finally can convey how I felt in those days when we met.

あらすじ
大学を目指している北見ケイは、SNS上で、6歳年上のイベントコンパニオン、上村香織に出会う。
上京してきた香織の夢は、有名なアーティストの友達になるためだ。
そのためにはラジオ局のプロデューサー、大沢亮の存在が必要だった。
大沢は、ラジオの生放送中、香織へ語りかける。
「僕には妻子がある。しかし、僕は君に会いたいと思っている」
ケイの同級生で、彼を想っている三條里香は、香織の動向を探っていた。。。。。
本編
人が海へ向かう理由には、二つある。
ひとつは、波打ち際ではしゃぐ子供のように、今の瞬間の海の輝きを楽しむこと。
もうひとつは、その輝きを静かに見据えて、過ぎ去った日々を懐かしむ老人のように記憶の埃を払うこと。
二つは重なり合わないようではあるけれども、たったひとつの意味しか生まない。
再生だ。
明日っていう、曖昧な日を確実なものへと変えてゆくために、自分の存在に向き合う。
それが再生の意味だ。
十八歳だった僕には大切な人がいた。

As a software engineer and a hobbyist graphics designer I was terribly disappointed in the #MyFlickrYear highlight card that the Flickr team came up with.
There is so much interesting data stored on this website to draw interesting metrics and conclusions from, but they just went the boring way, repeating what you could mostly check on the stats page anyways.
With that in mind, and with the email linking to my highlight card never arriving in my inbox, I decided to assemble this extended recap of my last year instead.

The last 30 miles or so was hard work. We completed this ride 5 times now. Every time it was has been a different experience - easier, harder. We've arrived much earlier, and a little later. I always like riding in the pitch black, which doesn't long at in the middle of summer.
The Dunwich Dynamo is a turn-up-and-go challenging free-entry overnight 120 mile bicycle ride on-tarmac from London Fields in Hackney to the lonely Suffolk beach at Dunwich. It’s not a race. It’s unsupported. There’s no van following. It’s a long way.
And now for some 'navel-gazing,' as it were.
As of 26 August 2023, my images on Flickr have been viewed twelve million times. To put that in perspective, I joined Flickr seventeen years ago, in 2006. Since then, I have uploaded 24,841 images for public view. That averages to approximately 705,000 views per year of the 1,460 images I upload per year.
When I began posting photographs and images to Flickr, most of my uploads were 'beer-centric' (often for use at my blog). Since 2016 or so, however, my emphasis has shifted toward nature, 'artsy,' and street photography, if not always successfully so. And, concurrently, the number of my images featuring 'good fermentables' has dropped precipitously.
All of these statistics and observations may be components of a dubious milestone but, nonetheless, I thank all who have visited my Flickr site and all who have 'faved' and/or commented upon my images.
PS. The PRO designation? It means that I pay Flickr for the privilege of posting images there.

The Portsmouth Naval Memorial, sometimes known as Southsea Naval Memorial, is a war memorial in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, on Southsea Common beside Clarence Esplanade, between Clarence Pier and Southsea Castle. The memorial commemorates approximately 25,000 British and Commonwealth sailors who were lost in the World Wars, around 10,000 sailors in the First World War and 15,000 in the Second World War. The memorial features a central obelisk, with names of the dead on bronze plaques arranged around the memorial according to the year of death.
To commemorate sailors who had died at sea in the First World War and had no known grave, an Admiralty committee recommended building memorials at the three main naval ports in Great Britain: Chatham, Plymouth, and Portsmouth. Identical memorials at all three sites were designed by Sir Robert Lorimer, with sculpture by Henry Poole.
