‘The Political Reporter’ is a new media installation by Boone, NC-based artist Mark Nystrom that generates random, but intriguing statements with words found on political websites and in the media. Sources include the Obama and Romney presidential campaigns, the Democratic and Republican parties, bloggers and the news media.
‘The Political Reporter’ animates a cloud of letters and periodically makes statements. These images are screen grabs taken while ‘The Political Reporter’ was running on Election Day and the day after.
Letters from words gathered from conservative sources are colored red and ones from liberal sources are blue. ‘The Political Reporter’s’ vocabulary includes over 70,000 words, but only 300 appear on the screen at any given time. As words are used to make statements, they are replaced by randomly chosen new ones from the list of 70,000.

Dr. G N Saibaba, Assistant Professor at Raml~l Anand College, Delhi University, was abducted by the Maharashtra policetoday, 91h May around 1.00 PM. He was in the Daulat Ram College for examination duty. The incident came to light whenVasantha, Prof. Saibaba's wife, got a mysterious call around 3 p.m., informing her that her husband is being taken toGadhchiroli by the Maharashtra police. This is a piece I created on stage 2 of my foundation course. The brief of the project was 'WORD'. I explored different subjects which included using words and certain imagery. One subject I looked at was statements that made impressions, or random impacts. I decided to create the 'smoking is cool' graphic as we are surrounded by negative outlooks on the habit, therefore I stated that it was 'cool' as that is how it is perceived by a lot of young adults these days.

The brief was to reduce the amount of paper wastage using one colour overprinting, the ultimate goal being to be able to produce a one page statement if there was minimal activity on the account.
