Since April 2000, whenever I am introduced to someone I have not met before and have the opportunity to shake their hand, I hold on for just a little bit too long
I first started photographing graffiti in 1999, and in 2000 I setup a website to share my photos. Initially a mix of different subjects, but it soon became almost entirely of graffiti. I uploaded over 6000 photos to this site. Eventually Flickr came along a few years later and I started using that instead, and stopped updating the website. I shut it down completely a few years ago.
I occasionally get requests from people for photos of pieces by specific graffiti writers, and I thought it might be a good idea to upload them all to Flickr.
Most of these photos were taken on film, scanned, and saved at a small size, back in the day when people were still using 56k modems to connect to the internet and small filesizes were desirable. So apologies for the quality and size for some of these. Someday I'd like to get them all scanned in again at a higher resolution.

Russell Moreton is a contemporary British visual artist and ceramist whose practice explores the speculative intersections of clay, architecture, space, and making. His work considers how the physical act of construction leaves traces upon materials, and how those traces might become forms of spatial and embodied knowledge.
Working primarily with clay and ceramics, Moreton develops sculptural forms through an iterative dialogue between material resistance, bodily action, spatial perception, and conceptual speculation. He is interested in the point at which ceramic craft exceeds the object and begins to operate architecturally —as structure, surface, threshold, spatial apparatus, or proposition for inhabitation.
Through slab construction, perforation, drilled apertures, grids, diagrammatic lines, weathered surfaces, and accumulated gestures, he creates forms that occupy an unstable territory between sculpture and architecture. These surfaces record processes of construction, erosion, correction, and transformation, becoming sites where control and excess, structure and instability, vulnerability and endurance coexist.
His practice extends into site-responsive installations and spatial assemblages that bring craft into dialogue with architecture, drawing, theory, social space, and everyday rituals of inhabitation. Making becomes a process of perceptual monitoring: an ongoing material conversation in which matter is repeatedly altered, combined, and reorganised.
Moreton’s work asks how an object might become an environment, how a surface might become a threshold, and how the act of making might become a way of thinking through existence.
