This was one of the startrail pics from this weekend when I sat over a stock tank hoping to catch a few meteors. The clouds moved in later to disappoint the early morning viewing. I managed to get 517 frames to generate this picture.

This is the second part of the pictures I shot last weekend. They where shot during the night or in the early morning before I was able to repair my bike. In the background you can see the "Felberg" which is the highest mountain of the Black Forest.
I've made a timelaps movie out of the single shots from this startrails photography which is only 2s long. I will have to try this once again and take more shots.
I also screwed up a little bit on the camera settings. The timer of my D5100 was set to 31s and the exposure time was 30s. I think the 1s wasn't enough which is why it only recorded one shot every minute instead of two. I first recognized my mistake back home, but the next time I won't make the same mistake again.
Has anyone made similar experiences with timer settings, especially for the D5100?
Yay! I finally got my ''first'' startrail shot :D
The weather conditions weren't perfect, on the right side still a bit of the sun, and on the left side the moon will come up in some minutes, but now i know how to get a good one :)))
I also catched one shooting star!
Have a nice day/night :)

A picture of star trails from an alternative point of view. Since we are in the northern hemisphere, North would be on the left hand side of this one.

I took this image at Wangi Wangi (Lake Macquarie NSW) this morning at 6am.
There was more colour in the sky then, than appeared at sunrise!
Taken with Canon 7D + Tokina 12-24 lens at 12mm.
42 second exposure at f11 ISO400.
Best viewed Large on Black - please
enjoy!
