Catching a beautiful sunrise on the northern tip of Nova Scotia in Aspy Bay on Cape Breton Island. Although the scene was peaceful, the mosquitoes were relentless in attacking me as I framed and took several shots.
I was cleaning out unedited files from a folder and organizing them when I realized I really wanted to add some more of these to the album. I don't know about you but usually on a big chase day where you shoot 500 frames I end up with a dozen at best I choose to edit and share. But this was one of those days where the ratio was more like 50% instead of 2%...it was just that good of a day! There aren't many of those in this hobby so why not?!
Anyway, the winter of 2021-2022 didn't yield any plow trains of any sort for me so here is a look back to a spectacular day spent along those magical Washington County rails of a railroad that should need no introduction.
Getting ready to start a day of plowing out the Batten Kill Railroad mainline to Eagle Bridge, SNEX 5012 (an ex Atlantic & Danville Alco RS36 blt. 12/59) has been fired up on the Carovail spur where she normally rests with out of service RS3 605 (Alco blt. Nov. 1950 as Lehigh and Hudson River number 10). The cab roofs offer a hint as to how much snow had fallen on the region the prior couple days.

One of the coolest things we have done is to start cooking. I found myself well into my thirties without any idea of nutrition and without the ability to cook anything. On the recommendation of a friend - I start using cookbooks from America's Test Kitchen. They experiment with recipes 50 different ways until they come up with something that tastes good and that anybody can make.
And it works. We made potato salad first and it turned out to be the best I had ever tasted. I couldn't believe that we actually made it. We were hooked and now have eight of their books and use them for everything. Years later we now make all kinds of food including our own salad dressing and bread. It never ceases to amaze me and I think of it every time we reach the bottom of another spice bottle.

It was a beautiful start to the day here in the Holme Valley, following first light the clouds started to rise out of the valley bottoms making a truly glorious spectacle.
This little one started school today, I miss her but know that she will be happy as she is joining her brother Oscar.

Starting off my series of 2022 Guitar Tuesday themes with my favorite guitar… the Eddie Van Halen Signature Peavey Wolfgang Guitar.
One of my ambitions in 2022 is to really get my studio set up and cleaned up. I have so many guitars in their cases, just stacked on the floor (which doubles as my workout room). I have equipment stored and cables still zip tied together. Little by little I plan to get it fixed up, and be able to post more video in the New Year.
That's it for now... take us out, Wolfie...!

Year Fourteen Of My 365 Project
Sometimes you have to burn it down and start from scratch.
A huge thank you to Anna Skahill for not only modelling in this photo, but in doing so missing out on going to the lake with the rest of the meetup gang (they forgot about us!)
This image has been in my head for months and I knew that I wanted to shoot it in Indiana and right away I knew that Anna would be the perfect person to help me out. I don't think I've ever met someone as 100% genuinely happy and positive as Anna.
It wasn't until after I finished my three hours of shooting that I went on Facebook and Twitter to find my concerned dancer friend's sentiments and disclaimers about my first time on point. Right now I have frozen corn in a towel on my toes. I hope the blisters aren't too bad.
THE THINGS I DO FOR FLICKR.
As I was finishing up some work around the house saw that the clouds around as the day was about to end had a good chance at some colors ... So I headed out to where all the leaves have fallen locally on a field below the trees ... turned out to be worth while. Here the colors were just starting out.
Turned the camera vertically here to get all those great leaves leading up to the trees and that pretty sky.
The start of a rather nice sunrise we saw at Happisburgh last week.

Monday 26th January, apparently, should see the start of Mk5 operation on Chiltern Railways between London Marylebone and Birmingham / Stourbridge Junction.
In the meantime, positioning, training and stock moves have been a-plenty between various storage and commissioning locations and the works at Eastleigh.
On 23rd January a Mk5 set moved either way between the works and Banbury, unusually with top and tail class 68's.
This presented the unusual chance for an afternoon shot of a 68 leading south, and with just a small chance that the sun may play ball, it was worth sticking around after work for.
Fortunately the sun did as hoped, and 68030 is seen here approaching Basingstoke working 5Q86 the 13:10 Banbury Depot - Eastleigh T&RSMD with set CH10 and 68028 on the rear.
Who would have thought we would see these interesting train sets here this time last year!?

Edited to add a little bit of information about the soldier in the photo.
He was actually my Grandmothers beloved and very handsome younger brother. He fought in WW1 and during the battle of Passchendale got injured, he wrote to his parents telling them he was fine, it was just a small injury, but a few days later was dead from gangrene. He is buried in France.
This was my first stop to catch the CRSA special. Here they head over Fox Lake en route to Janesville, WI.
