Orion Nebula with normal Teie lens Sigma Sports f4.0/500, from window in Ruhr lighting conditions, ISO 6400;
500 exposures each 0.8 sec; 340 of them used and stacked and stretched in SIRIL; then processed in Lightroom; all in all 3 hrs of work,
Hard disk (SSD) usage: SIRIL 562 GB..., 1,5 h (each photo comes with 50 MB), enlargement long side: factor 1,4.......
soon with tracking and longer exposure times at low noise ISOs and with telescope ....
This one is a bit of processing magic. I finally found a new program that can create what I see in my mind when I look at a photo. I loved this scene, but the colors weren't as vibrant as I wanted them to be, nor was the sky interesting enough. After about an hour, voila. The fort in St. Augustine has a more lovely backdrop of clouds, and more vibrant tones in the water and sand, which makes this photo really pop. I enjoyed working on this one!
I won't be on here much this week. Thursday starts extended hours at my store for the Labor Day sale, and hopefully I will be very busy. We're also about to be hit by what should be a tropical storm in another day, packing winds of up to 65 mph and soaking rains. Worse case scenario, no work Thursday! Might have no power, AC or internet, either! Please pray for us down here in Florida, especially those on the west coast, where they are expected to get up to 15" of rain! Welcome to sunny Florida!

I have been working a lot to save up a few loonies for our next road trips coming up soon and I am excited for our next adventures. Meanwhile, here is another set of images from last spring. It was a treat to watch a pair of Avocets wading about in a field in Saskatchewan. We don’t see these birds in our area. I shall catch up with all of you soon again.

The fifth day started early and very cold! Before breakfast I went back to the parking at Seljalandfoss, and a few hundred meters further there’s Gljufrabui, another beautiful waterfall that is a bit hidden in a narrow gorge. To get there without getting your feet wet, you’ll have to step over a few rocks. But this is quite easy to do, and then suddenly it seems like you’re standing in a cave. It is a stunning scenery but pretty hard to capture. Even with my 15mm I had a hard time finding a pleasing composition. But maybe this could also have been due to the beers from the night before. The challenge was compounded by the cold, which left my fingers almost numb. It wasn’t even very cold outside, but a bit of wind and the spray of the waterfall which made everything soaking wet, made it feel like sub-zero temperatures. You probably understand I was happy enough with this shot and packed my stuff as quickly as I could. Meanwhile the breakfast we ordered, made out of fresh fruit, yoghurt, warm breads, pancakes and all kind of sweet stuff, was delivered. I forgot about the cold immediately, with the first shot in the bag. With a full stomach we left the cabin and headed for Vik, in what I can describe as stormy conditions…

So, generally I'm not a fan of cropping images to a non-standard sized format. I don't know why, they're digital images and can be any size they want to be since I rarely get them printed out, but still I hesitate and dislike it.
But today's image is one of those that I couldn't resist the crop for. This is how I would have shot it, if I had more than my 40mm with me or the ability to hover. (still working on that)
Since this is how I would have shot it if it were possible, I don't feel terrible about the crop, but still it bugs me. Weird, isn't it?
Anyway, even with the crop I like this shot. Especially knowing it was done very early in the morning without a tripod!

One month ago, the southern Africa section of the botanical garden was just beginning to come into bloom. It is still beautiful!
Yesterday was the 10th birthday of the Nhill Aviation Heritage Centre, and one of the features of the day was restarting the Wirraway (made by one dedicated gentleman, from scraps of other Wirraways lying all over the countryside)

Shot for the Crazy Tuesday group - Opposites Attract.
Since fruit was allowed, I went with the tart fruit encased seed that fuels our economy. I give you the simple: coffee bean.
On the right is the actual coffee bean fruit on top of a coffee bush leaf (I have my own coffee plants that I grow and they happen to be currently ripe). Inside that red ripe coffee cherry, are seeds that are to become coffee beans.
The coffee beans first need to be fermented, washed, dried, and eventually roasted.

Restoration of 106 year old Leeds & Liverpool Canal wide boat George at Baltic Wharf Boatyard on the River Dart in Totnes.
Once restored she will return to the Leeds & Liverpool to travel between Liverpool and Leigh on events and school visits between May and October, and overwinter at the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port.
