The Fresh Start Scholarship Foundation recently held its graduation ceremony at the CSC in Wilmington, Delaware, celebrating the achievements of its latest cohort of scholars. The event was a testament to the hard work and determination of the graduates, who have overcome various challenges to achieve their educational goals.
As the graduates walked across the stage, the room was filled with pride and joy from family, friends, and supporters. The keynote speaker delivered an inspiring message, emphasizing the importance of perseverance and the transformative power of education.
The ceremony also highlighted the foundation’s commitment to supporting non-traditional students, particularly women, in their pursuit of higher education. Each graduate received their diploma, symbolizing not just an academic achievement but a fresh start and a step towards a brighter future.
The celebration concluded with a reception, where attendees had the opportunity to connect, share their stories, and celebrate the success of the graduates. The Fresh Start Scholarship Foundation continues to make a significant impact in the community, empowering individuals to achieve their dreams through education.
The MX-5 Club of WA held a "Fun Sprint" and BBQ at the RAC Driving Centre. This was not a competition day and was an introduction to motor sport for some and a tuning day for others.

Using fusible applique paper trace the reverse of the tail pieces and comb, feet, beak and eye. Also with fusible applique paper make tow shapes big enough to cover the tail and comb. iron onto wrong side of fabric and cut out.
A magical mystery tour in a vain attempt to photograph the northern lights, sadly, it was not to be, so had some fun with the torch instead!

Ono is deeply critical of violence, believing the world can start to heal if violence is confronted. Much of her work is an invitation to see the world differently, from another perspective. This approach is encapsulated in a work like A HOLE... A pane of glass shot by a bullet reads: ‘Go to the other side of the glass and see through the hole’.*

Yoko Ono Music of the Mind
(February – September 2024)
Yoko Ono is a trailblazer of early conceptual and participatory art, film and performance, a celebrated musician, and a formidable campaigner for world peace. Developing her practice in the United States, Japan and the UK, ideas are central to her art, often expressed in poetic, humorous, profound and radical ways.
Spanning more than seven decades, YOKO ONO: MUSIC OF THE MIND is the UK’s largest exhibition celebrating key moments in Ono’s groundbreaking, influential and multidisciplinary career, from the mid-1950s to now – including her years in London where she met her future husband and longtime collaborator John Lennon.
The show traces the development of her practice and explores some of Ono’s most talked about and powerful artworks and performances. This includes Cut Piece (1964), where people were invited to cut off her clothing, to her banned Film No.4 (Bottoms) (1966-67) which she created as a ‘petition for peace’. Visitors are invited to take part in both simple acts of the imagination and active encounters with Ono’s works, such as Wish Trees for London, where visitors can contribute personal wishes for peace.
Audiences will discover over 200 works including instruction pieces, scores, installations, films, music and photography. The exhibition reveals a groundbreaking approach to language, art and participation that continues to speak to the present moment.

This is the riding portion of the Saturday Get Started with Natural Horsemanship clinic - participants were challenged to really understand and communicate with their horses accurately - including just moving the shoulders, hindquarters, sideways, halt, and back up from both the ground and in the saddle

When I started my South Bay project there were no eastern reaches of Mt. Eden Creek, the creek itself having been truncated by salt pond impoundments. Tidal flow ended near the historical site of Eden Landing. As the Eden Landing Ecological Reserve (ELER) project progressed into Phase I, plans were made to reconnect areas of the former Baumberg Salt Plant, once the eastern end of Mt. Eden Creek, to tidal flow. These were to become the Mt. Eden Creek Marsh and Mt. Eden Creek Muted Marsh. In 2008, a tidal flow was restored to the area by the removal of a dike that paralleled the current day bridge at the Eden Landing Kayak Launch dock.
Just a year earlier, tidal flow was restored via Old Alameda Creek and North Creek to the former southern complex of Baumberg crystallizer beds. This area, just west of the Eden Shores housing development, was named North Creek Marsh. The marsh nomenclature was apt for the northern reaches of the area as it does now sport marsh vegetation. The southern portion has remained a visually intriguing mudflat.
These new tidal areas in ELER’s Phase I are interesting to track as they progress from the dusty, barren plains of disused salt works to established marsh and mudflat. Every year shows a bit of progress.
I am taking these documentary photographs under a Special Use Permit from the California Department of Fish & Wildlife. Kite flying is prohibited over the Eden Landing Ecological Reserve without a Special Use Permit.
