The Papal Basilica of St. Peter in the Vatican is an Italian Renaissance church in Vatican City, the papal enclave within the city of Rome. Designed principally by Donato Bramante and Michelangelo, St. Peter's is the most renowned work of Renaissance architecture and and the largest church in the world
Of the noteworthy buildings in Görlitz is the gothic church of St. Peter. It dominates the Neisse river and from the small garden you can clearly see the Polish sister city of Zgorzelec and the new bridge uniting them. This place is really quiet and peaceful and retain all its medieval look.
The best thing I can do for a description of St Peter's in the Wiltshire village of Poulshot, near Devizes, is to copy the text of the Small Pilgrimage Places Network page about the church, which is repoduced with gratitude.
“St Peter’s Church lies in the vale of Seend, to the north of the Salisbury Plain. To truly appreciate the tranquil, peaceful atmosphere present within the St Peter’s, it requires a visit. There is an air of still and calm throughout the church. It is a simple, not large, stone church set apart from the village in the countryside. This makes it a quiet place, being surrounded by fields. Unlike many other historic churches, St Peter’s is a light place, with lots of sunlight, giving it a life giving and open feel. It is a place particularly suited for the Celtic services held there once a month on a Wednesday evening. Its unpretentious nature and peaceful atmosphere make it ideal for quiet contemplation and prayer. Its simplicity makes it a place to concentrate the mind and to centre oneself in the still calm.
“The oldest parts of the church, including the Nave, date to the 13th Century. It underwent considerable alterations in the 15th Century. A fire in the church in 1916 destroyed the main part of the nave roof which was subsequently rebuilt.
The church was built outside of the village and to this day remains set apart from the village. This was thought to be because of Plague fears, which link with the history of St Peter’s through the presence of Plague pits in the churchyard, denoted by the location of skull and crossbones set in the stone on one side of the church. This is a fascinating part of St Peter’s history, giving reason for why the main part of Poulshot is so distant from the church. The history of St Peter’s is also found in the presence of a dole stone in the corner of the churchyard on which alms and dole would have been distributed to those in need in the village.
“The churchyard is a picturesque place, with grassy verges and snowdrops in spring as well as other wildlife throughout the year. Situated where it is, it also has beautiful views of Salisbury plain and the countryside around.”
This stunningly beautiful old church sits on the cliff-tops in Heysham Village, where it overlooks Morecambe Bay. The church is Grade I-listed and considered to be one of England's Thousand Best Churches.

The Papal Basilica of Saint Peter (Latin: Basilica Sancti Petri), officially known in Italian as the Basilica Papale di San Pietro in Vaticano and commonly known as St. Peter's Basilica, is a Late Renaissance church located within the Vatican City. St. Peter's Basilica has the largest interior of any Christian church in the world, holding 60,000 people. It is regarded as one of the holiest Catholic sites. It has been described as "holding a unique position in the Christian world" and as "the greatest of all churches of Christendom".
In Catholic tradition, the basilica is the burial site of its namesake Saint Peter, who was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus and, according to tradition, first Bishop of Rome and therefore first in the line of the papal succession. Tradition and some historical evidence hold that Saint Peter's tomb is directly below the altar of the basilica. For this reason, many Popes have been interred at St Peter's since the Early Christian period. There has been a church on this site since the 4th century. Construction of the present basilica, over the old Constantinian basilica, began on April 18, 1506 and was completed on November 18, 1626.
St. Peter's is famous as a place of pilgrimage, for its liturgical functions and for its historical associations. It is associated with the papacy, with the Counter-reformation and with numerous artists, most significantly Michelangelo. As a work of architecture, it is regarded as the greatest building of its age. Contrary to popular misconception, Saint Peter's is not a cathedral, as it is not the seat of a bishop. It is properly termed a papal basilica. The Basilica of St. John Lateran is the cathedral church of Rome.

The interior of the temple was decorated between 1896 and 1902 in neo-Mudejar modernist style by Pablo Monguió Segura and the plastic artist Salvador Gisbert, who also built a new cloister. We decided to go see St. Peter's Square on our last day in Rome. We couldn't go in, since you need to get tickets in advance to enter it or any part of the vatican. Since we are not Catholic, we did not get tickets. We were there for about 10 minutes when music started playing and the jumbo-trons came to life. The Pope was driving thru the crowd in the square in The Pope Mobile.
This small window has a pair of male heads, the right-hand one bearing a crown. The tracery on the window seems to have had larger decorations but they're in a sad state of repair.
Usually when I visit a church, I wander round at least half the outside taking photos before I step inside. In the case of St Peter's in Hampton Lucy, there are so many features outside that it would be at least 10 days before we step across the threshold. Built by its rector John Lucy to replace a medieval church, St Peter ad Vincula is a very grand affair for a small village, with craftsmanship of very high quality. It was consecrated in 1826 and as late as 1858 Sir George Gilbert Scott was commissioned to add a chancel and porch. Both are fine examples of Gothc Revival.
This is the inside of the doors, no doubt also designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1858, which has truly massive bolts.

A decorated buttress between the windows of the apse. The windows themselves have a deep border of carved leaves (all in very good condition). On the buttress are angels, the top one reading from scripture, the lower one crossing her arms and flanked by two scary mythological beasts.
Dating from the early 13th century with 14th century additions, St Peter & St Paul Parish Church continues to be a focal point for Appledore.Just on the edge of Romney Marsh at the end of the high street before you leave the village onto the marsh..
Supported by churchgoers, the friends of the church and other local residents, St Peter & St Paul remains very much at the heart of the village, not only as a place of worship, but also as a conduit for charitable community services and a location for special events such as the annual Flower Festival
There has been a church here for many centuries. "In AD 772, King Offa of Mercia (who held sway over Kent at that time) gave part of the area to St Augustine's at Canterbury and there was a church here named St Peter's in about 1070. The present building still has two of the original Saxon windows. The church has never had a tower and the single bell has been housed in successive wooden bellcotes. The present bell is said to be the oldest in Kent, dating from the early 13th century and possibly a little earlier.
At some point in the later medieval period, a new village was formed to the west. This may have been due to the Black Death, whereby many villages moved their centre of habitation a mile or two for fear of being too near the burial site of victims. The ‘new’ village became known as West Whitfield, before changing to Lower Whitfield and now simply as ‘Whitfield’ as the village gradually grew. Old Whitfield to the northeast then became known as Church Whitfield. The villages developed quite different characters but maintained a close attachment in terms of physical proximity. All these villages are now part of Dover District.
My thanks to a lot of different resources.
MY THANKS TO ALL WHO VISIT AND COMMENT IT IS APPRECIATED.
There has been a church at Froxfield Green for over eight hundred years. With its nave, south aisle, central tower, Norman central arch and two elegant yew trees the original church stood until the 1860s when much of the church was demolished and parts were incorporated into the new church a mile or so away at High Cross.
St Peter’s on the Green was rebuilt in 1886 as a chapel of rest on a modest and elegant scale, in Early English style. It was paid for by William Nicholson of Basing Park, Privett and designed by the celebrated Arthur Blomfield, who also designed Privett Church, the Royal College of Music and the nave of Southwark Cathedral.
St. Peter's, Edensor stands in a prominent position in Edensor Village on the Chatsworth Estate.
Designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott, the church was completed in 1869. The Cavendish Chapel contains a memorial to the two sons of Bess of Hardwick, which was originally in the old church. The pulpit and the font are made from Ashford marble and alabaster. There is also a memorial in the Chapel to Lord Frederick Cavendish, son of the 7th Duke of Devonshire, who was murdered in Phoenix Park, Dublin within 12 hours o flanding in Ireland on 6th May 1882. Parts of the old church are amalgamated into the new church - a piscina and the old font. The churchyard has a large tomb containing the remains of Sir Joseph Paxton who died in 1865 and there is a brass memorial plaque to him in the church. There are also war memorials from WW1 and WW2 in the church.
St.Peter`s Church in Malmö
Was probably founded at the beginning of the 14th century.Although no documents bearing this out exist tuday,we do know that when the Chorch was first mentioned in 1346 it had alredy been consecrated for divine worship. It was dedicated to St.Peter and St.Paul.
St.Peter`s Church has a triple-aisled nave with transept and ambulatory. All of it is built in the so called Baltic Gotihic style. Its closest prototype would appear to be St.Mary`s Church at Lubeck. The exterior of the Church is distinguished by its flying buttresses and elegant arches soaring over aisle and ambulatory alike. The tower was given its present apperarance in 1890.Grouped around the main building are several additional erections. To the north of the tower lies the Baptistery or Merchant`s chapel (Krämarekapellet),beloning to the 15th century. To the south lies St.Anna`s chapel, built around 1500 and dedicated to the mother of the blessed Virgin Mary.

Photographs from my trip to Rome in February. An amazing couple of days spent in a truly breathtaking City. The basilica was called St Peter’s after one of Jesus’s twelve disciples known as Saint Peter, who became one of the founders of the Catholic Church and was executed in Rome and buried where the Basilica now stands.
