St Peter
About 1510 - 1520, Southern Netherlands, Oak
Medieval Christians felt a deep affinity for the saints. They saw them as heavenly helpers, pleading with God to be merciful towards mankind.
One of the most popular saints was St Peter, the first Pope. He was often shown holding the keys to Heaven and wearing his papal tiara. This figure was originally brightly painted. It would probably have been set in a church, on a console or ledge on one of the nave columns, with candles burning before it.
The St Peter's Church is the highest church in Riga. First mentioned in ancient chronicles in 1209, St. Peter's was a Catholic church until 1523, when it turned Lutheran.

St Peter's Church is a parish church in Conisbrough, in South Yorkshire, in England.
The core of the church is believed to be 8th-century, based on similarities with Northumbrian churches known to date from this period. If this date is accurate, it is the oldest building in South Yorkshire. Historian David Hey argues that it was a minster church, forming the centre of a large, early parish, covering all or much of the 11th-century Fee of Conisbrough. From this early period survives much of the stonework of the tower and nave, including some windows, most of which were later blocked. Part of a 10th-century cross shaft has been discovered, and the church is recorded in the Domesday Book as having a single priest.
In the 12th century, aisles were added, and the chancel arch and south door also date from this period, as does a tomb chest in the south aisle. Rita Wood argues that the tomb is for William de Warenne, 3rd Earl of Surrey, who died in 1148, as it depicts battles and themes from The Song of Roland. The piscina and a cross slab in the north aisle are 13th-century. The church was next remodelled in the 14th century, from which time the present south aisle dates. In the 15th century, the tower was refaced, and a south porch and clerestory added. Many of the windows also date from this time. The north aisle was rebuilt in 1866, and there was a general restoration, followed by another later in the century, and in the 20th century, the porch was restored.
The church is a grade I listed building.
A whole row of carved corbels above this left-over carved lintel from the time when it surmounted a doorway. Leaves and flowers are interspersed with geometrical patterns, which are thought to have been based on motifs in Reading Abbey, long since in ruins. This carved band would presumably already have been around 500 years old during the 1607 rebuilding of the tower, and in a style very unlike the prevailing one in Tudor times, so it's impressive that they decided to incorporate it in the new tower. I'm guessing that although only about 8 'tiles' are lattice work, they probably all were and have either become clogged up by centuries of dirt, or needed backing to prevent their disintegration.
Church of St. Peter in Vienna is one of the most interesting Baroque churches of Austrian capital.
The first church, of which there no remain any relics, was maybe belonged to the oldest temples in Vienna and perhaps already established in the 4th century On the site of the former Roman camp.
The construction of this church started in 1701 and in 1733 was consecrated church. Holy Trinity and St. Peter.
This church is the first Baroque dome building in Vienna. The compact form combines surprisingly spacious, richly decorated inside with rectangular outbuildings.
Church of Sts. Peter was the favorite temple of Empress Elisabeth called Sissi, wife of Franz Joseph I.

Trójcy Świętej i św. Piotra.
Kościół jest pierwszą barokową kopułową budowlą Wiednia. W zwartej formie łączy zaskakująco przestrzenne, bogato zdobione wnętrze z prostokątnymi przybudówkami.
Kościół św. Piotra był ulubioną świątynią cesarzowej Elżbiety zwanej Sissi, małżonki Franciszka Józefa I.
From the roof of St Peter’s Basilica, Rome.
It's a 500+ climb of steps to the very top, some of it claustrophobic as you walk between the gap of the two domes at the top. Not for the feint hearted, but you are rewarded with a superb 360 degree view of Rome if you do manage it.
Peterchurch
According to legend, the church is dedicated to St Peter because the saint himself passed through the area on his way to Rome, rather an odd place for him to be, but then it’s just a legend. The church was founded in the 8th century, possibly by the powerful King Offa of Mercia. The church you see it today is of Norman origin, restored in the Victorian period.
The fibreglass spire was added in 1972, replacing a 14th century spire which had become unsafe. It sits on top of a 13th century tower with walls seven feet thick. It was built so thick to withstand possible attacks by Welsh raiders, this now peaceful area was for centuries the scene of violent conflict between the Welsh and English. It is seemingly only one of two churches in England with a fibreglass spire, I believe the other to be St Paul's Church, Smethwick.
It is not the easiest of places to photograph, the spire is so tall some photos I’ve seen of it miss the top off, thankfully I had the Sigma 10-20mm lens with me and managed to get everything in the shot.
Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.

One thing I have noticed about church architecture in Lancashire and Cumbria is that there are several churches which appear to be very much older than they actually are. St Peter's Church at Quernmore is one of them. This is Grade II-listed and dates from 1861. Some three miles east of Lancaster, Quernmore is just within The Forest of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

St Peter and St Paul's Church is a Grade II listed building. The tower dates from the 14th century, but much of the rest is 16th century. It was restored between 1870 and 1871 by and again in 1891.

St. Peter's Church (Danish: St. Petri Kirke, German: St.-Petri-Kirche) is the parish church of the German-speaking community in Copenhagen, Denmark. It is situated at the corner of Nørregade and Sankt Peders Stræde in the city's Latin Quarter. Built as a single-nave church in the mid-15th century, it is the oldest building in central Copenhagen. It is also notable for its extensive complex of sepulchral chapels. (Wikipedia)
