We saw these little guys on the way up the 101/1 to San Francisco, at the vista points.
This one is eating a gummy bear...
NOTE: we did not give him the gummy bear.
Cute, even if I didn't catch his super brushy tail.

This little guy let me get just close enough to take a picture but never took his eyes off me while he sat there munching away. SQUIRREL..!!

Virtually all Eastern Grays in this (northern) part of their range are melanistic. It is thought that the expression of this recessive gene has something to do with survival in the colder climes.

I got the sense I was being observed while looking for more Praying Mantid to photograph. I looked up, and there was this squirrel, probably wondering what I was doing.
We tossed a few pieces of corn on the cob under a big tree in our back yard and this little girl came running. After she was done eating, she came right up to the patio and begged for some more!
(We couldn't decide if maybe she looked pregnant....or nursing babies?)
Red Squirrel at the Freshfield NT on Merseyside. Not as many as there used to be as the have been hit with the Squirrel pox virus.
jenny found it hard to contain her excitement while we looked for red sqirrels and expressed it with a yawn !
Was very close to this little fella taking this shot. I was using a 100mm lens. He was more concerned about his food than me.
