By Sandee Vartanian Dusbiber. Mr. Squirrel was so excited in finding a new house. Most of the winter he has been living in an old vacant birdhouse. Today I noticed he was checking out this big hole in a very tall tree in our woods in Plymouth, Michigan. He finally got his chubby body in the hole, and spent most of the his time in the hole. I was surprised that he did not play with the others squirrels but stayed in his hole watching all the fun down below him. I wonder why he moved out of the vacant birdhouse? At least he had a roof over his hairy head.

He's just got really big hands and feet - I wonder if the saying rings true in the squirrel world ? :O)

Squirrel in my garden. By the look of his ear, this fellow has been in a few fights!

Only had a macro lens... not really suitable for squirrel hunting.

Cropped.

This little mama squirrel stopped by to raid the bird feeder and I talked her into posing for a few photos. She looked at the proofs and decided I wasn't as good as Olan Mills but I was much cheaper. She ordered the cheapest package. I've never been paid in nuts before.

This is the other regular female squirrel visitor, a little shy compared to the one who likes to eat out of my hand. She seems to be dominant, so she is probably older.

The only photo I took this day... a bad squirrel photo taken out my kitchen window. =)

I ran into a group of squirrels by the main door of the plant sciences building. While they don't get weekly peanut deliveries like their cousins a few blocks away they have it pretty good. Three side by side trees were a magnolia loaded with seed pods, a crab apple loaded with fruit, and a horse chestnut. This one is eating a crab apple.

Squirrel in a park in Helsinki

Why don't I upload here more often? Meh.

OK Buzz, Zephyr, pay attention. See this? This is a squirrel. This is a cute little critter, I agree, but this cute critter is eating us out of all our bird food. One of your duties, and a requirement for your next meal, is that you keep the yard free of these cute critters. Especially in summer. In winter I don't mind if they eat a little bird food, but in summer there is plenty of food for them elsewhere.

So get out there! Do your job! Chase these cute critters away!!!

(It's weird, the dogs used to go nuts about the squirrels, but this summer they've quit chasing them and the squirrels are really everywhere. I think the squirrels bought them off).
