Little critter, squirrel at the bird observation area at Trentham

This little squirrel was busy chattering at me. Not being bilingual (human/squirrel) ...not sure what it was saying.

I think I was in the minority for not having a bag of monkey nuts with me. These guys are well fed!

Sitting on the hedge outside my window, taken through the screen.

This was an old squirrel,he moved very slowly, and seemed to have a problem climbing up the trees.

red squirrel standing with moped with yellow orchids

The squirrel din move and kept staring at the crow. He was not ready to give up on the food.. but he had to.. :(

Loves his bird food, poor thing was starving when he first turned up, in two days he is not so keen to let me get near him but he is still alive and surviving!

I just took this through our sliding glass back door, hand held at 263mm (526mm full-frame equivalent).

This lovely little squirrel was very curious about us one afternoon in the backyard and let me get very close to get this and a few more shots. I only regret she wouldn't let me show her how great she looks.

Golden-mantled Ground Squirrels of Crater Lake National Park

The golden-mantled ground squirrel, is one of the commonest mammals in Crater Lake National Park and probably produces more entertainment for visitors than all other types combined.

This species is commonly present in forested regions of Oregon from the Cascade mountains eastward and is especially prevalent in the ponderosa pine forests of the Cascade, Blue, and Wallowa Mountains. It is found, in these regions, from the edge of the sagebrush up into the white-bark pines at 8000 feet altitude. At Crater Lake these squirrels are present in all regions of the park including both Wizard Island and, on one occasion, on the Phantom Ship.
