Sprouts Eye View. Roast pheasant with parsnips, roast potatoes and gravy. Plus..walnut and orange stuffing and cranberry relish and on the farside chipolatas wrapped in bacon (skewered with a cocktail stick).
I had the strangest experience a few days ago: I bought some beans because I was planning to buy a pressure cooker (had a jones for some proper Brazilian style beans & rice). But as it turned out, pressure cookers are hard to come by these days in gringolandia, I had to order one on line.
This discovery despite the fact that I had soaked some beans the night before. Sitting about moist for just a day or so, they started to sprout.
So I took one and put it in a cup with a moist paper towel. And low and behold, a few days later, there's an eight inch plant growing out of there. I know I'm a city slicker and all that, but seriously, to me that's amazing. No soil!
Mirlitons (chayote) have a soft seed inside the fruit which germinates about thirty days after harvesting. This viviparous quality means that the the whole fruit must be planted since the seed draws on the fruit for nutrients. Here we see an imported variety that sprouted and is the right length to plant. Roots will emerge from the tip of the emerging seed and at the nodules on the stem in the soil.

Bury your existence in the ground of insignificance because what sprouts out of an unburied seed will not yield good results.

I just planted these seeds the day before yesterday, but I already have four or five sprouts! I guess the greenhouse is good for more than just protecting seedlings from herbivorous cats :)
