A small tortoiseshell sunning itself in my garden in Brighton yesterday - gorgeous sunshine...

There were actually four chicks, one is underneath the wings at the back. Taken in Darsham, Suffolk.

Another attempt to build here which we are fighting again to save the few last remaining dark spaces and quiet green habitat for our little friends and all flora and fauna under so much threat now. Please see our website River Crane Sanctuary for more information and if you can help us do get in contact.

Thank you

Thanks Steve for the heads-up on this.

Awful light but... well it's a Nuthatch!

Every morning he serenades our neighbourhood. This morning I got to see the singer. This year, there seem to be three or four of these in full voice. For many years I couldn't recognise the song, but often heard them in the evenings in the woods in the summer. I called them the 'nice to meet you' bird, after one of the phrases in his song had a similar cadence.
