7 months after fledging their nest a couple of juvenile kingfishers are still holding onto their parents territory even though most of their fishing spots are now flooded (they prefer shallow, slow moving water). But they're finding enough food to survive, so If they can last a few more months on the Don they could be challenging their parents for the rights to breed on this stretch River in the spring.

This is a female grey heron just arrived to hunt for her first meal of the day. She is very particular on the fish that she hunts for.

CONFUSED?
Mr. and Mrs. Robin are nest building already!
in our Letter/Newspaper box.
Middle of winter...unbelievable.
I'll keep you posted.
My last woodpecker post went along the lines of
- on a damp dark day what better place is there for photography than a day in the woods.
So here I was again with history repeating itself. As I stated then woodpeckers are a nervous bird always on the lookout for trouble and the youngsters seem to be no different.

A Marbled White with a parasitic red mite attached to its thorax, which apparently doesn't do any harm to the butterfly!
A female Redstart in woodland beneath the Betws mountain, Amman valley.
I saw the first Redstart (male) on April 21st so it was lovely to visit my favourite Redstart spot yesterday and see one male plus at least two, possibly three females.
The male seemed disinterested in the females but the females were chasing each other about relentlessly! Is there a reason for this anyone?
Spent the afternoon up on the Mendips chasing bugs...

As seen on BBC SpringWatch Digital Grand finally 2020 !!
A female Kingfisher flips a fish around, ready to swallow head first as they always do. The image was taken in the Teifi Marshes in Ceredigion.
Turned out nice again. :@)
