The Victorian Garden of Remembrance is situated within the Springvale Botanical Cemetery in Melbourne. The original garden was opened in the early 1960s and was extended in 1988. When first entering the garden, the visitor will see, towards the rear, the large granite stone which bears a commemorative plaque collectively honouring all those whose names are inscribed in the garden. On each side of the pathways are walls bearing plaques commemorating individual veterans..

Midway, between the entrance and the commemorative stone, a path leads into the extended Garden of Remembrance. A little way along is the plaque marking the dedication of the extended garden..

The visitor proceeding through the garden will walk through the European Sunken Garden, which is bounded by a covered pergola, then on to an Australian Dry Creek Bed and the Asian Garden. The European and Asian gardens symbolise the main theatres of war in which Australians served during the First and Second World Wars and subsequent conflicts..

Steamed Oysters done two ways, with ginger and garlic, and black bean sauce.
I think I prefer the ginger and garlic. It highlights the taste of the smooth creamy oysters!
There's actually 2 sizes of oysters, the smaller ones being AUD9.99 per dozen, and the larger, almost double in size, were AUD11.99. Both from Springvale. Well worth the money!

Cwmbran colliery was based along a seam of coal close to the surface, and so rather than mineshafts the coal was extracted using a surface adit (basically they just took the topsoil off and dug out the coal). The site now consists of a series of pools formed along the adit lines, and is a small nature trail, although there are industrial ruins further upstream.
By the turn of the 21st century the service station had been demolished and an early learning centre was built on the site in the early noughties.

In a wet woodland at the bottom of Springvale, Cwmbran, someone had constructed a boardwalk to get over the extensive patches of wet mud. Someone else has demolished them across their entire length, leaving just the posts as a sort of Krypton factor challenge. Fall off and you lose your foot in the deep mud. I fell off.
G514 drops downgrade through Springvale with 1877 containers from Port Botany to Kelso (Bathurst) for Southern Shorthaul Railroad.
This train had been delayed first by trackwork, and then to allow the Indian Pacific to overtake, then by a signalling problem east of Lithgow, and finally in Lithgow yard to detach G513. By the time the train reached our carefully planned photospot, sunset was three minutes away (not that it mattered, as the sun was hiding behind a thunderstorm that would shortly lash Lithgow to Sydney with heavy rain and lightning).
1877 has now made "the list". To have gotten any result at all (we had given up, packed the cameras away and I was seconds away from starting the car) is testament to a final slice of good luck in an otherwise unlucky couple of days.
