At the Springvale Botanical Cemetery is the largest crematorium and memorial park in Victoria, Australia. It is located in Springvale, in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne..
The Necropolis commenced operations in 1901. Until 2006, it operated as The Necropolis Springvale. Between 1904 and 1952 it was served by its own railway station and line to transport coffins, passengers and staff to the cemetery. The first cremation took place at Springvale in April 1905. In 2007 Springvale conducted over 2000 burials and 6000 cremations..
The Trustees of the cemetery also administer Dandenong Cemetery, St Kilda Cemetery and Melbourne General Cemetery..
The cemetery contains the war graves of 146 Commonwealth service personnel, nearly 50 from World War I and nearly 100 from World War II.

The new Springvale Community Hub has been open about a month and is still being discovered by the residents. I dropped in on the weekend to see the 2 storey library and check out the faciliities. I am really impressed by how the Council has incorporated playgrounds, water feature, table tennis, artificial lawn courts and other recreational areas in the park surrounding the U Shaped library/council building. The colours are really bright, vibrant and sometimes clashing!! The Town Hall also has had a makeover and extension.
They even managed to save the magnificent River Red Gums that are and were at the entrance to the Springvale Council Building.
Taken along the 'Gentle Annie' road - 136km's of winding and steep back country road that runs between Taihape and Napier. The route is fully sealed and passes along many large farming stations.
In 1922, Sydney Mair of the Rangitikei County Council drew up plans and William Salt of Wanganui was contracted to build the bridge. Construction started in early 1923 and the bridge opened in April 1925.
The bridge’s span is 61 m and its reinforced concrete towers are 7 m tall.
It was known as Erewhon Birdge and later as Springvale Bridge after the nearby sheep station.
Despite the rough and winding nature of the road, it got a lot of use and after 45 years of service the bridge was no longer considered safe for heavy traffic.
In 1970 the road was realigned and the new bridge built alongside the old one.
The bridge spans the Rangitikei River, on the Taihape-Napier Road. It is 41 km north-east of Taihape and and 111 km west of Napier.

Springvale Homestead, Katherine NT Australia.
Springvale was founded by Alfred Giles following his successful 14 month journey in 1879 overlanding of cattle and 12,000 sheep from SA. Giles in company with Woods, commenced looking for a homestead site on the banks of the Katherine River between the OT Station and King River junction.
They "ultimately selected a spot on the Katherine River about 8 miles below the Telegraph Station and on the north side. At this spot, and almost on the bank of the river, was a very fine mound spring with abundance of water and half a mile west of it was another mound spring with a running stream of beautiful fresh water and between these two springs was a valley terminating in a fine permanent billabong covered with the beautiful red lily.
Thought the name Springvale would be the most appropriate one for the station and as such it is known to the present day."
Giles went on to construct a managers house and store from local stone using Fred Stone, one of his overlanders and a practical stone mason, and develop a garden using water from the spring.

T400 leads a rake of VFHX log wagons towards Flinders Street, with A78 on the rear of the train. The wagons are being used to provide braking power for three unpowered vehicles in the train, specifically EA2508, TE2808 and LE2858.
The Xplorer and two Endeavour cars were being transferred from the workshops at Dandenong to Dynon to be placed back on their standard gauge bogies following refurbishment. This would be the last such transfer movement, as the entire of the Endeavour and Xplorer fleets have now been refurbished.
