A78 brings up the rear of the transfer of EA2508, TE2808 and LE2858 from Dandenong to Dynon, seen here near Springvale.
The Xplorer and two Endeavour cars were being transferred from the workshops at Dandenong to Dynon to be placed back on their standard gauge bogies following refurbishment. This would be the last such transfer movement, as the entire of the Endeavour and Xplorer fleets have now been refurbished.
What appears to be a type of wasp mimic fly, but which specifically, I have not been able to determine. See comment below.
Looking back towards the mainline it is obvious that not that much actually remains. However I have heard that it is of sufficient length to hold a modern six car train for emergency purposes.

Demolition of factory behind almost complete; two-level office building remains at the front.
The site produced precast concrete panels for building facades.
New car park behind adjacent former 7-Eleven with freshly laid asphalt. It is awaiting curing before heavier vehicles can use it.

Where this woodland is was once the offices of Cwmbran Colliery. When I was a child in the 1960s, these offices were part of a small farm; I well remember seeing pigs there. The farm was compulsorily purchased for the construction of a new school, but after purchase the council changed their mind and opted for the Fairwater site (now Cwmbran High School). They then incorporated the farm into the adjacent Greenmeadow Community Farm but, instead of preserving the buildings, razed them to the ground and created woodland. An act of vandalism in my opinion but typical of the mania for destroying Cwmbran's industrial heritage.
Cwmbran Colliery opened in 1837 at the Porthmawr Adit in Upper Cwmbran, also known as the Clay Level because of the excellent grade fireclay discovered there, causing an adjacent brickworks to be opened in 1839 to exploit it. In 1854 another adit, the Mineslope Adit was opened a little further up the mountain and in 1879 the Main Adit was opened in Springvale near the Cwmbran Iron Works (later GKN). The colliery closed in 1927 with the sealing of the Main Adit. The previous shift's entire output of coal was sealed in after the miners left the adit for the last time. A tramway system ran from the Mineslope Adit to Old Cwmbran where it linked up with the Cwmbran-Caerleon tramway which finished at the wharf on the River Usk.

Key stone over the 1879 "Water Adit" just down from the Main Adit of Cwmbran Colliery (closed in 1927). The keystone is carved "PN & B Co 1879" (Patent Nut & Bolt Co (Pre- GKN).
The cascade which fetches the brook from the Springvale Ponds into Church Wood where clay extraction was carried out for the Greenmeadow and Woodside brickyards.
This is the same brook which flows past Lidl on Woodside Road and is then culverted under the town centre, emerging past Southville and joining the Avon Lwyd River by the boating lake.

Shots around the Springvale station during the grade separation works in early 2014 which will be completed later in the year.
Looking in the UP direction from the current level crossing. Note the points on right to the former siding to the Westall stabling yard which was removed to make way for the lowered tracks. The original 1922 overhead stanchions have been temporarily been replaced by two track cantilever structures to allow construction close to the old line.
