Another mystery plant in my garden, though this one is trying hard to become a tree, already about eight feet high. It's evergreen, has this pretty blossom in summer and small reddish black berries in the winter – and having hunted through all my plant books, I can't find it.
A lovely warm Spring day at St. Edwards church Kempley, Gloucestershire, with daffodils now all out around the church.
At some point I shall have to move on from spring to summer, but it's notoriously difficult to know quite when that is in England... Meanwhile, here are two more shots of my Philadelphus or Mock Orange, which is blooming away. We've had some very heavy rain in the last few days, hence the raindrop at the bottom right-hand corner here.

It takes but one positive thought when given a chance to survive and thrive to overpower an entire army of negative thoughts.
In spring, robins are often seen as harbingers of the season, returning to their breeding grounds and engaging in courtship displays and nest building, with male robins arriving first to establish territories.
I imagine the Hood River Valley will look like this in the next few weeks, but for this year we'll have to reflect back on prior years.

Happy First Day of Spring!
At least that's what the calendar says anyway. I had 8 inches of wet, sloppy, heavy as concrete snow yesterday morning! We all tell ourselves that we badly need the moisture, which is true, but we are also anxious to get a move on!
More bluebells, all leaning over to reach the sunlight. Apparently English Bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta) have a droopy stem - these ones look pretty upright, so maybe they're Spanish (and very welcome, wherever they're from...).
More Snowdrops (Galanthus), of which I think there are at least 50 varieties. These are all from the riverside walk near my home.
Some fresh green spring layers from Tuscany this Easter. The light there is amazing!

Blossom on my Quince, often known in this country just as 'Japonica'. Most years it does set fruits, but I've never attempted quince jelly.
I have three bushes of varying heights of this tiny pink rose - left to itself, it happily climbs to over ten feet. The buds are perfect miniatures and even when fully out the flowers are only about an inch and a half across. What you can't tell from photographs is that they also have a wonderful scent.
