Also known as a Sand Martin, this is a very rare visitor to our Southern state though more common in North India where they winter after migrating from the Pale Arctic region. They have a wide spread across much of Europe, Asia and even North America.
The birds are pretty small - maybe 12-14 cms and have a slow erratic flight path. They tend to catch the insects in flight making them pretty hard to shoot in flight. Two birds came to a city lake, I was lucky to have spotted them close. I sat on the ground trying to shoot some birds and this one came close by giving this wonderful opportunity. The birds are solo fliers unlike other swallows like the Barn Swallow or Streak Throated Swallow which fly in small groups. The Bank swallow joined others species, but it was flying alone with no other members of its species around.
Thank you so much in advance for your views, feedback and faves.
Tree of love, i see you rise
You place temptation in my eyes
I feel your sweet, tender caress
As my defences you undress
Underneath your branches spread
Where my desires they are fed
Against your trunk, on the ground
Where sweet paradise, it is found
In the beauty of your eyes
As your passions spread and rise
... and be free ....

Impressions from my first trip to Helgoland
The male Anhinga’s job is to strip some nesting material from a nearby tree and bring it back to his mate who does the nest building. There is a lot of communications during this process, with the male often calling on the way in and his mate excitedly chattering back at him. I’m not fluent in Anhinga but can recognize love talk when I hear it! This guy gave me a full out wing and tail feather spread as he approached the rookery with his contribution. Thank you Mr. Anhinga! (Anhinga anhinga) (Sony a1M2, 200-600 lens @553mm, 1/3200 second, f/6.3, ISO 1250)

Happy Lunar New Year to those who celebrate it; may the Snake bring you bountiful of joy and happiness!
Close-up framing of a Western Reef Heron in flight with its wings outstretched over the sea. Also known as the Western Reef Egret, it has a long pointed beak and yellowish feet, which are visible as it flies.
The bird's flight creates a sense of motion blur visible in its wings and the background water.
Wings allow birds and other creatures to soar above limitations, symbolizing the ability to break free from constraints and explore new horizons.

A magical few minutes on top of Pen y fan in the Brecon Beacons, when the overriding colour was grey. This was one of the few places where the tripod wasn't blown over, so the tranquil looking ridge curving round to Cribyn, was far from it. I'm off down the beach again today, after a cultural day in Bath yesterday. Love spreads is by The Stone Roses, and I love winter so it's fine.
The yellow rapeseed fields are a bonus at this time of year, suddenly the farmer's fields turn yellow, a perfect contrast to the green one's. These field's always seem to have the obligatory tracks,as captured here.

We have resident Spruce Grouse in the woods on our property. We have named this handsome fellow Romeo. For the past two weeks, he has been out courting the Spruce Hens that live on our property and it has been quite entertaining to say the least.
Two nights ago, we came home from town and Romeo was on top of our truck's tonneau cover doing his mating ritual.
When doing his ritual, he spreads his feathers out like the image above, then moves them from side to side. After doing this a few times, he then will peck at the ground or in this case, a branch. His next move is to extend his wings out maybe an inch on each side and have the wingtips pointing towards the ground. He will then run towards the hen and if she is receptive, then he will mate. If not, she will fly off and Romeo will start all over again. Gotta love Romeo!
