My travels around the UK by car for three weeks with my son. June/July 2019 England.

Day Twenty .. Making our way to Dorridge where we are staying for our last night on our journey around the UK.

Last August, while my wife and I were visiting family and friends in Japan, I took this panning shot while wandering around Tokyo with my friend Kiyoshi.

Dog walking again, we walked down to the station and had loads of trains pass through in the five or six minutes we were there. I chose this one because it looks like a great ad for midland mainline (local train co.) as their logo is perfectly clear as the rest of the train zooms past - check the higher res shots. Also like the orange colours of the night shots.

Was just nice hearing the sound of the motor of this boat as it sped along the horizon!

This is my first attempt at tracking a train across a viaduct. Moving the camera to try and match the speed of the train keeping it in focus whilst bringing blur to everything else adding the sense of speed to the frame.

Here the Hitachi 800 is heading over Forder Viaduct.

This is one of my bucket-list shots. I've tried several techniques but the favoured, panning, just ends up blurred. This one was taken at a fast shutter speed (1/1250) which resulted in a great sharp photo, but looked like it was suspended in space. I then motion blurred the background plus a little on the zebra too.

A BNSF Railway coal train speeds north as some rather menacing storm clouds approach from the west. This was taken just north of the old location of North Antelope in the Powder River Basin, Wyoming.

really impressed at how long the freight trains where in texas. they just seemed to go on forever. there railways don't seem to be as health and safety conscious as ours as you can walk right up to the track great for taking photos!

Amtrak train 3, the westbound Southwest Chief, is seen passing semaphores near Wagon Mound, New Mexico as it races across the prairie.

I was in Denver for a week and opted to take a day to drive to New Mexico to shoot these last few surviving semaphores, knowing their futures are uncertain and that they could be removed at any time. The signals at the north end of the siding these signals protect had already been replaced with "Vader" signals!

As of 9/8/21, I can confirm semaphores still stand at the following four locations:

35.390427, -105.331232 (single-track block)

36.015705, -104.701948 (end of siding)

36.043010, -104.692712 (single-track block)

36.073125, -104.688506 (end of siding, pictured)

I believe I saw at least one other location while racing from Wagon Mound to Bernal, but I don't recall precisely where.

I have tried panning for quite sometime now and believe me it's not as easy as it looks. Here I caught a speeding NYC yellow cab on the left lane, I did a selective color treatment to bring attention to cab in the frame. Should you come to NYC watch out for these guys they will leave you shocked as they cut you off!!

Taming Light #30

For new viewers: These are light refraction patterns or 'caustics' formed by a light beam passing through a shaped and textured plastic form. The pattern is captured directly on to 35mm film by removing the camera lens and putting the transparent object in its place. The processed film is digitally scanned for uploading. Please note these are not computer generated images but a true analogue of the way light is refracted by the objects I create.

Cresson, Pennsylvania is known as the base for helpers that pushed westbound trains from Altoona, but many eastbound trains also required helpers to get over the Alleghenys. By this time, the dominance of 45-line EMDs for helpers was being infiltrated with SD40's and SD40-2's, as seen in this SD40/SD45-2 duo speeding westbound through Lilly to meet an eastbound freight.
