Michael Shields, the President of Chicago's Fraternal Order of Police gives an energetic speech at the Labor Day rally for the Chicago Teachers Union at Daley Plaza.
The teachers seem to be getting the shaft from the city on some raises that they're contractually owed and the police know that they're about to get it too.
I liked Shield's line in his speech when he said 'we're public servants... not indentured servants.'
The predicament for these unions is a tricky one... there's a lot of hurt out there in this economy and I don't know just how much support these guys will get if they strike...
and essentially in order to make good on the promises that government has made to the workers who comprise these organizations we're gonna have to see tax increases.
Because gahd knows that government can't cut spending.
So their only answer is to harvest more revenue from the people.
And right now the 'people' are havin' a hard time.
I see both sides of the issue though.
I know one thing...
it's settin' up to be a battle.
I haven't been the most 'pro union' guy out there...
but I see the writing on the wall.
The 'middle class' is doomed.
Unless we stand together to amplify our voices and increase our strength we will be obliterated.

If there's one thing I love about school, it is debate class. It's taught me more about myself than I would have ever learned otherwise.
I really believe that I am a stronger, more independent individual because of it.
-January 26, 2012
Today was very busy, espicially with debate class. I had the freshmen come to me with questions, and I was proud to see two of my own CX freshmen working on the case already, on top of making bills for Youth Government. I have no doubt that they will do well.
I am so proud of them.
I am so proud of my team.

At Ausyresolutions, our speech & language pathologists will work with a child/adult one-on-one, in a small group, or directly in a classroom to conquer difficulties concerned with a specific disorder.
Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue has a final read of his speech to check for flow and accuracy, then he includes additional notes before sending it to the stage manager, during the School Nutrition Association's (SNA) 71st Annual National Conference (ANC), at the Georgia World Congress Center, in Atlanta, GA, on July 12, 2017. More than 7,000 will attend the ANC to share best practices for improving menus, strengthening school meal programs and expanding student access to healthy meals. USDA Photo by Lance Cheung.

Today's throne speech, opening the fifth session of the 39th Parliament, lays out a clear vision to seize opportunities and secure a brighter future for British Columbia families.
The throne speech also outlined the government's plan to establish the British Columbia Prosperity Fund from revenues generated by exporting natural gas to Asian markets. The revenues generated would be directed to eliminate provincial debt and to support additional measures to improve social services and make life more affordable for families.
