SPC Marvin Forbes

Human Resource Specialist

Duty station: Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Hometown: Columbus, Ga.

Spc. Marvin Forbes hopes to become a triple-threat entertainer – singer, dancer and actor – during the 2013 U.S. Army Soldier Show tour. He received a berth in the Soldier Show live auditions by singing his way into the 2012 Operation Rising Star Live Finals at Joint Base San Antonio Fort Sam Houston. Now he hopes to turn it up a notch or few. “Being on the stage and putting on a show is something that I’m pretty good at, for an amateur, but it’s not something that I’ve been accustomed to,” said Forbes, 22, a native of Long Island, N.Y., who grew up in Columbus, Ga. “I’m used to just singing. I really hope to get a good idea of singing correctly, which I hope to get from Mr. [Joey] Beebe, choreography, which I hope to get from Miss Amy [Lynn Miles] and just all the knowledge that’s in this place in general. Just being in a show altogether professionally will be a first-time experience for me.” U.S. Army photo by Tim Hipps, IMCOM Public Affairs

Army SPC David Mayer was on his second deployment when he lost both of his legs when the convoy he was riding in was attacked in Al-Hillah, Iraq on March 14, 2008. On route to a mission in Baghdad, SPC Mayer's vehicle was struck by an Explosively Formed Penetrator, causing SPC Mayer, to be thrown into the gunner's cage, severely injured by shrapnel. David and two other soldiers suffered serious injuries leaving each of them a bilateral amputee. Airlifted to Landstuhl, Germany, SPC Mayer was later transported to Walter Reed Army Medical Center where he remains at this time, undergoing therapies and treatments.

A fan of cryptography, David would like to return to school and has hopes to open his own business in the future. He is a member of the VFW, American Legion, the American Legion Riders, and the Patriot Guard.

When asked how living in a specially adapted home built by Homes for Our Troops would change his life SPC Mayer stated, "This home will stabilize me so that I can go to school and work and get on with my life. One of my biggest worries has been trying to locate accessible housing and Homes for Our Troops is taking that worry away. Thank you for doing this... it changes lives and it helps injured service members cope when they see that there are people who care."

i took this sp at the end our summer holiday last year, which would explain the lovely golden tan on my legs and feet! (now they are a dazzling lily white).

i have tons of shoe/feet shots in my archives but i had intended to take new pics every week for this month's SPC shoe challenge. alas, i don't always honour my intentions. pff. though i will try again next week, i swear.

having said that, i'm kinda glad i dug out this old shot... it's amazing how one simple image can conjure up a whole string of feelings and titillate so many senses. i'm suddenly so much more excited about the summer now... suddenly so much more aware that it is *really* almost here :)

Fisi class System Patrol Carrier (SPC)

Role: This destroyer sized carrier is built for rapid deployment and long range system patrol, the system patrol carrier's main roll is to patrol the Nyani system and respond to possible threats and sensor anomalies.

The SPC is much smaller and faster than mainline carriers, with very limited production and hanger capacity. The SPC carries squad of 4 Bawa-A space superiority fighters. At first it may seem inefficient to have such a small carrier, still needing facilities for strike-craft production, maintenance, docking, crewing and support. However due to their extended and often remote missions, the requirement for a flexible platform and constantly variable force is needed. Using a larger carrier force for border patrol would be much more resource intensive, and requre a larger crew and resource reserve.

GetJet Airlines A320 LY-SPC at Cotswold Airport.

Cotswold Airport (Kemble) is sad last resting place for many aircraft and the starting point of a new life for a few. It is a magnet for enthusiasts and photographers, especially those who 'like' to record the last days of an airframe or a change of identity. It is also a home, if sometimes only temporarily, to airframes which would be seen in the UK only rarely or not at all. The scene at Kemble changes steadily and a series from my latest visit illustrates all of the foregoing.
