New to China Motor Bus
After eighty years of only running single-deckers, Souls got their first double-deckers in 2006 for school contracts around Northampton. This Condor came from the eccentric Weavaway of Newbury operation who were noted for putting B10M registrations on things that aren't Volvo B10Ms. Weavaway's Condors carried the 'Noah Vale' fleetname with the erstwhile NBC 'N-sign' and Ark-themed names. This one was 'Ark Royal' and others of note included 'Ark de Triomphe', 'Joan of Ark' and 'Ark the 'Erald'!

New to Excelsior
Oddities amongst Souls' large fleet of Volvo B10M/Plaxton Paramount coaches, mostly ex-Wallace Arnold, were a pair purchased from Safeguard of Guildford in 1996. These were the less-common low-driver version and had been new to Excelsior to their own peculiar spec without the small 'feature window' above the wheelarch. The Plaxton badge must be a later addition as Excelsior were very particular about not displaying any manufacturers' badging.

Souls seem to have taken to high-capacity double-deckers for schools and private hire work, the ex-Hong Kong Dennis Condors having been joined by a pair of these brand new 100-seaters. Delivered in September 2008, PO58 KPK was the first one and has no badges as it was built in the changeover period after the Darwen Group had bought East Lancs but before the merger with Optare; its younger sister PN09 EOL is badged as an Optare product.

The soul is a pilgrim journeying towards endless horizons. ...
Death is a journey towards a new horizon.

The Cloud said to me, "I vanish";
the Night said, "I plunge into the fiery dawn."
The Pain said, "I remain in deep silence as his footprint."
"I die into fullness", said my life to me.
The Earth said, "My lights kiss your thoughts every moment."
"The days pass", Love said," but I wait for you."
Death said, "I ply the boat of your life across the sea."
(Rabindranath Tagore, Fruit-Gathering)

Herman Hess had a quote that said something like, "If sensuality had a soul, out of that art would be born." This is my first study of the Birth of the Sensual Soul done in acrylics. Original was 30 x 40. Prints will be available on my Etsy page.
She is so beautiful
I've got no words to describe
the way she makes me feel inside
I'm flying solo,
as free and as light as a bird
yet I'd lay my wings down in a moment
to guard and comfort her
She is so beautiful
light-filled, loving and wise,
laughter dancing in her eyes
All my road is before me
and I never did plan on a wife
yet she's the most beautiful soul
I ever have met in this life
For she is like a song
She is like a ray of light
She is like children praying
Like harps and bells and cymbals playing
and she is like a wind
moving, soothing, bringing joy

And let the sun wrap its arms around me
And bathe my skin in water cool and cleansing
And feel, feel what its like to be new"

"What we want... soul power... what we need... soul power!!"
"Soul Power is a 2008 documentary film directed by Jeff Levy-Hinte about the Zaire 1974 music festival which accompanied the Rumble in the Jungle heavyweight boxing championship match between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in October 1974. The film was made from archival footage; other footage shot at the time focusing on the fight was edited to form the film When We Were Kings.
Performers in the film include James Brown, Celia Cruz and the Fania All-Stars, B.B. King, Miriam Makeba, The Spinners, Bill Withers, and Manu Dibango.
Footage was shot by a variety of camera operators, including Albert Maysles." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soul_Power_(film)
*****
"'Soul Power' is a song by James Brown. Recorded in 1971 with the original J.B.'s (plus Fred Wesley) and released as a three-part single, it was a Top Ten R&B hit. The song also appeared on the 1972 album Soul Classics. Like 'Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine' and other hits from this period it features backing vocals by Bobby Byrd, the original leader and founder of Brown's singing group, The Famous Flames.
Brown performs 'Soul Power' on the live albums Revolution of the Mind: Recorded Live at the Apollo, Vol. III (1971) and Love Power Peace (1992; recorded 1971).
An instrumental version of 'Soul Power' was created in 1974 by adding new overdubbed horn parts by Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley to the rhythm track of the original recording. Sound engineer Bob Both added random sound effects at several points to conceal where the horn track from the original recording had bled through into the rhythm parts. Titled 'Soul Power '74' and credited to 'Maceo & the Macks', the new version was released as a single on People Records and reached #20 on the R&B charts. It also appeared on the album Us!.
A re-edit of 'Soul Power' was included on the 1986 compilation album In the Jungle Groove.
Both the original recording of 'Soul Power' and 'Soul Power '74' have been extensively sampled by hip hop producers. 'Soul Power '74' was also sampled on Jennifer Lopez's 2005 song 'Get Right'.
'Soul Power' was covered by the alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins on their 2000 album Machina II/The Friends & Enemies of Modern Music." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soul_Power
