Actually a case of serendipity. I looked up "Preston Cemetery" in Flickr and found an angel with outstretched wings I'd completely missed the day before.

Dull and drizzly, but I couldn't ignore this. Another good reason for returning in clear light. I loved her!

(I never found the other angel, then on returning to base, read the small print, "Preston Cemetery, Melbourne! I'd still be searching now!)

Words are not enough when someone goes and with no mercy executes defenseless innocent youth....

My thoughts go to all the victims and families of the victims. This horrendous act....the killing of over 90 innocent people in Oslo and Utøya

Todos los Santos is a grand celebration in every corner of Catholic Philippines. A few days before the big day of November 1, people already will be sprucing up the graves of their departed ones. Services are available everywhere, from kids touting paint and cleanup jobs to contractors installing tents and electric lights. In high end cemeteries, grand 2-story villas are testament to oneupmanship tendencies and may cost upwards to 10 million pesos ($180,000). In public humble cemeteries, the ordinary folks, inter their dead in niches that can be 6-8 storeys high. There can be no lack of festiveness though, rich or poor. On the big day, traffic stops at the cemeteries while other main roads will be deserted.

One of my biggest challenges yesterday, Oct 29, when we visited this public cemetery where my paternal grandfather and relatives are buried, is to time my picture when nobody will be blocking my view or intruding in the desolate image I wanted to show. In just 2 days, it will be difficult to see a niche without a flower or a candle or people teeming around celebrating life rather boisterously and joyously (not solemnly). Todos los Santos after all is already a party.

The Magpie that has been laughing at me for weeks!

And he talks to the river of lost love and dedication

And silent replies that swirl invitation

Flow dark and troubled to an oily sea

A grim intimation of what is to be

Large On Black

I know I've posted this before but I love this treatment and its kind of something I want to post to mark this phase. :)

I'm undecided on the crop but this is more of a shot for a milestone.

Sorrow drips into your heart through a pinhole

Just like a faucet that leaks and there is comfort in the sound

But while you debate half empty or half full

It slowly rises, your love is going to drown

I visited my library friends (ex colleagues from the schools library service) today in their new work space under Bowes Road library. They have a lovely light working environment, but somehow someone has forgotten what they actually do, because they seriously don't have enough space in which to do their job when the school holidays come round. The perennial problem of management believing it knows everything while actually knowing very little.

I walked back after lunch with them through Broomfield park . . .

Life is short, art long, opportunity fleeting, experience deceptive, judgement difficult.

Life

After a while you learn the subtle difference between holding a hand and chaining a soul.

And you learn that love doesn't mean leaning and company doesn't mean security.

And you begin to learn that kisses aren't contracts and presents aren't promises.

And you begin to accept your defeats with your head up and your eyes open and with the grace of an adult, not the grief of a child.

And you learn to build all your roads on today because tomorrow's ground is too uncertain for your plans.

After a while you learn that even sunshine burns if you get too much.

So plant your own garden and decorate your own soul instead of waiting for someone to bring you flowers.

And you will learn that you really can endure - that you are really strong.

And you really do have worth.

Since my first upload of this motif (see www.flickr.com/photos/walford/4712478574/in/photostream/ ), I have been thinking of ways to create a more powerful, and coherent mood, which hopefully this perhaps achieves.

The figure [lower right] is based on an altered version of a thumbnail from Inmagine.com - Photoalto.
