We stumbled upon a sad scene at Plumbers Hollow. A couple of days prior, CP Gray was cut over and the PRR intermediates east of the control point were removed. The bridge here at Plumbers Hollow (MP 221) was cut up and thrown to the side of the ROW along with the others between here and CP Tunnel. Plumbers Hollow was the last to be removed completely though which gave us some time to look at the ruins up close. At one time these signals would have made this boring power look a bit better but in this snippet of time, it just made for a sad scene. But, modernization is critical for the railroads to continue to be competitive. It just means we'll have to adapt as photographers and find new ways to make photos look good without these historic relics in them.

There's another photo for the same child in my photostream, but this is, for me, much better from a photographic point of view. The same is innocent sorrow can be seen here. Never saw such pure sadness.
Taken in Jeddah (Al-Balad) - Saudi Arabia.
But when you see through love's illusions, there lies the danger
And your perfect lover just looks like a perfect fool
"Can I see another's woe,
And not be in sorrow too?
Can I see another's grief,
And not seek for kind relief?"
by WIlliam Blake from "On ANother's Sorrow"
My sketch. Using just pencils I have difficulty in distinguishing the different colours. I therefore approach it this way:-
- skin tone ( 2B, erased with tissue);
- blue( 2B )
- black (4B); and
- high heel shoe ( 6B).

Translation: When prison of life and bindings/chains of sorrow are same, then why before dying do we seek the liberation from sorrow..!

“... joy and sorrow are inseparable. . . together they come and when one sits alone with you . . . remember that the other is asleep upon your bed.”

Early in the morning I went to Nepali ghat in Varanasi (Benaras) where stand two huge water tanks painted in pink which became a great background in order to take a series of portraits.
Since a few days the Eternal city has to bear unusual cold temperatures and there is a heavy fogg which is covering everything adding a mysterous light to the atmosphere. Any colour is turning into muted shades.
This lady came from far away with a group of pilgrims in order to worship the holy waters of the Ganges.
She was waiting for a boat, she was happy to be there but she wasn't used to such a weather.
I could see joy and sorrow in her eyes...

The clouds are real. I have used Artizen HDR (single JPEG) with a light Fattal tone mapping only to reveal the surface the statue because she was against the light.

This morning I'm sorting through my backlog of Google Reader and Flickr contact photos, inspired by the beauty while weeping at the pain of so many.
