A vertorama is basically a vertical panoramic stitch .

This image is made from three shots , one upper one middle and one lower . i did take a total of nine shot for hdr vertorama`s but i thought id start with the easy stuff first , walk before i run type thing :)

The image size is 3909x3748 and the tiff file was around 81mb !

I love my new camera.

final countdown - four more days then I will be back in Canada again

The story is very old, written by Sir Walter Scott and published in 1822 roughly half-way through his magnificent output known generically as the Waverley Novels. Sir Walter's novels - certainly the more popular like Ivanhoe, Red Gauntlet the Heart of Midlothian have never been out of print and in searching for lesser read titles I have always been able to get one from specialist reprint houses. But I did hesitated when I located a UK publisher of Peveril of the Peak on offer for sale at about £23.00. (Second-hand copies can be had at much lower prices). A further search and I found a firm in the good old USA who would print the book for me to order for an amazing £7.41, including delivery.. Originally Scott's book was published in two volumes, it runs to over 700 pages and is his longest novel, so this seemed quite a bargain, I ordered it and two weeks later it arrived.

My habit is to start off each new reading year with a novel from the Waverley series and this was to be my choice for 2016, but eagerness and facility sent me to Amazon where I was able to download a free copy to my Kindle, and as I dipped into the story I got hooked and so it is that my first novel for 2016 has been read in December 2015.

Peveril of the Peak, is a book for Scott enthusiasts, it has all the quality of literary wit and the ostentatious ceremony of a long lost formality of language that is for me totally seductive. Nobody would possibly speak or write like this today, but oh, how I wish we did. As always his tales are rooted in a firm historical base, and here its the Catholic Plot fears during the reign of Charles II, but the segways and turns of its plot-line, beggar belief and would not pass muster from any modern author. But Scott is not a modern author and if you allow for that then the Peveril of the Peak is still well worth indulging. Which leaves me with a problem, what now will be my first Sir Walter Scott novel of 2016? Any suggestions?

So here we are, books printed on demand in foreign continents, free copies downloadable from Amazon's incredible cloud and read on an electronic reader, that remembers where I stopped reading, provides me with an instant dictionary with in-page notation and highlighting for future recall, and can within its slim format store more books than will be found in many a library. We really live in an astonishing age blessed by access to such rewarding technology. It is a long cry, and a far cry from the reading-room and the public library service which got me into this whole booky thing in the first place, but by-golly it adds so much to life.

Something new for the new year.

A long time ago I build a Zags, and while researching that one I also found a smaller one in blue that I really liked. And after last Legoworld I got some extra slopes in Bright Light Blue to finally get started with it.

With this new design I also approached the frame differently to get a more stable car, which really worked. So I guess I'll have to update my other 2 tank cars now as well.

I'm really fond of how this one turned out, maybe if I can be arsed I'll upload a file or instructions for it to open-l-gauge.eu/

So I was just browsing through Flickr and I saw a wonderful invention by Yureiko, one of the great masters of tessellations! Robin had folded the Camelia tessellation as a modular one and I decided I would give it a go.

I folded a single unit and that turned out fine so I have now folded out this mammoth 96 x 96 x 96 grid! It is about 40cm wide, and took me about two hours to fold. I will hopefully finish the tesellation for next week! Looking forward to it :)

Hallo liebe Leser,

Markus

I've decided to join the Project 52 that the Glass Slipper Blog is conducting this year. Click here to learn more about the project 52 and join in. My "something new" shot is two-fold. First, it's rare that we receive snow in Dallas, but this was was shot on Christmas Day, so a White Christmas in Dallas was new. Secondly, I shot this with my new D600 I received for Christmas. Some of you may know the new camera went dead the same day. Good news is that I will get a new body early next week.
