Sóller is a town and municipality near the north west coast of the Balearic Island of Mallorca, Spain, 3 km inland from Port de Sóller, in a large, bowl-shaped valley that also includes the village of Fornalutx and the hamlets of Biniaraix and Binibassi. The population is around 14,000. The Tranvía de Sóller tram links Sóller to Port de Sóller.

Old-growth forest, subalpine lakes, and snowy peaks populate the Sol Duc landscape, while the Sol Duc River serves as a key highway for coho salmon, running through the valley and ascending to the lakes and headwaters in the surrounding mountains.
The Sol Duc Valley is located in the northwest region of the park. Just 40 minutes west of Port Angeles, the Sol Duc is accessed by turning off Highway 101 onto the Sol Duc Road.
For those looking to spend anywhere from a few hours to an entire day in the Sol Duc, there are a number of shorter hikes that may be suitable. From the parking lot, the walk through old-growth forest to the Sol Duc Falls overlook is just a mile. Lover's Lane (6 mile loop) and the climb to Mink Lake (5.2 miles roundtrip) can also be done in just a few hours.
This simple image of the Sun is related to the previous two. Here you can see the distribution of the spots on the solar disk. Unlike my other captures, in this case I used a Meade 80mm, f/5 achromatic refractor telescope, which allows me to use my astronomical camera containing the entire disk. The rest of the equipment was the usual: Meade 575 solar filter (remember to use appropriate and safe filters before directing a lens or view at the Sun), Player One Neptune-M camera, Player One IR685 filter.

My previous post of this waterfall was taken while standing on the bridge seen in the background. The two men were standing on a rock outcropping below the center of the image. This shot was taken close enough to the falls to suit me!
Trams in Mallorca are a popular mode of public transportation that run in the city of Soller and its surrounding areas. The tramway in Mallorca offers scenic views as it travels through the picturesque countryside, making it a popular attraction for tourists. The trams are operated by the Soller Railway Company and have been in operation since the early 1900s. The trams are an efficient and convenient way to travel around Soller and are a unique way to experience the beauty of Mallorca's landscape.

Shadows along the Sol Duc River trail give this rainforest a dappled look. The trunk of the monster Douglas Fir on the right is perfectly split by shadow from a nearby monster, giving the trunk a creased look, which is what first drew my eye. These big firs are tantamount to the Redwoods, simply awe-inspiring. Loggers came out here years ago after they decimated original-growth trees in my home state of Michigan. I'm not anti-logging, but we've been challenged by the proper balance throughout our history. In a Dark Wood, by Alston Chase, is a good read in this regards.
