Here is a view of the Sol Duc Falls, landscape-framed. I love this unique waterfall that plunges into a deep gorge making its way through the Sol Duc Valley of Olympic National Park. Water-levels were low this year, but it's still a pretty view.

Old-growth forest, subalpine lakes, and snowy peaks populate the Sol Duc landscape, while the Sol Duc River serves as a key highway for coho salmon, running through the valley and ascending to the lakes and headwaters in the surrounding mountains.
The Sol Duc Valley is located in the northwest region of the park. Just 40 minutes west of Port Angeles, the Sol Duc is accessed by turning off Highway 101 onto the Sol Duc Road.
For those looking to spend anywhere from a few hours to an entire day in the Sol Duc, there are a number of shorter hikes that may be suitable. From the parking lot, the walk through old-growth forest to the Sol Duc Falls overlook is just a mile. Lover's Lane (6 mile loop) and the climb to Mink Lake (5.2 miles roundtrip) can also be done in just a few hours.

Vom namensgebenden Sóller klettert die Schmalspurbahn Ferrocarril de Sóller in einer langen Schleife mit Kehrtunnel und diversen Brücken auf knapp 400m, um anschließend wieder hinunter nach Palma zu fahren. Tw4 führt den Zug kurz vor dem Viaducte de Monreals bergwärts.
The narrow-gauged Ferrocarril de Sóller is climbing from its start in Sóller up to roundabout 400m above sea level before getting down to Palma. EMU 4 is running uphill near the Viaducte de Monreals.
Here is a view a bit upriver and behind Sol Duc Falls in Olympic National Park, September, 2025. When the river is high, 3 offshoots of the falls are visible. Here, there is only one and I only had 2 + a trickle for a third one from the bridge view, seen in the background. It's been dry on the Olympic Peninsula this summer and Washington state as a whole. Hence, the wildfires near Mt. Rainier National Park.
