1963 Opel calendar
The champion of the German soapbox derby, according the calander. I do not know what Opel's involvement in soapbox races was, but the 1969 calender has a photo on this subject too. Sponsoring probably.
It looks as if this blue heron is making a speech. If anyone has a better idea for a title or caption,,,,,,,,feel free to contribute.
I took on this brief project for a "Show Me..." game in one the of Sony Alpha groups. It's just hand held by unremarkable room light. But It occurred to me that there may be some among you who have actually never seen a real soapbox. This contained soap.....and for all I know may have been stood on for stump speeches. The guy who put out the product was a cousin of mine. I believe this would have been from a few years after the Civil War. I have never made any effort to keep the old box in good shape; It's always just "sat there" with some collected old family things inside. Advertising has changed a bit from those days, hasn't it?
Following some unpleasantness with the San Francisco Police, the 2008 Illegal Soapbox Derby relocated to an alternate location.
Part of Peterloo 2019 Anniversary Weekend
Fri 16 Aug 2019
HOME hosted the Peterloo Soapbox , part of the Manchester Histories Peterloo Anniversary Weekender, commemorating 200 years since the Peterloo Massacre.
We invited creatives from all over Greater Manchester to take to the mic and say their piece, responding to the themes of Protest, Democracy and Freedom of Speech.
Following some unpleasantness on Bernal Hill with the San Francisco Police, the 2008 Illegal Soapbox Derby relocated to an alternate location, and gravity took care of the rest.
Showing up to save us all at the Art Deco Weekend Art Festival were the “Born Again” folks. They are no stranger to South Beach on Saturdays but this was the first time I had seen them there on a Sunday. I have photographed them a couple times on Miami Beach and once in Miami to counter a rally against Judge Samuel Alito. This character seems to be the ringleader and is the most confrontational making statements like “all you homos and lesbians are going to hell” and going down a list of all the dead rock and rap stars that are now in hell like Elvis, Tupac Shakur, Maralyn Monroe, Biggie Smalls, Jim Morrison and Kurt Cobain just to name a few. Here Pastor “I’m gonna save your soul” declares Ocean Drive the “Highway to Hell”.
On Sunday our school took part in the local soapbox derby. The students assembled the car themselves.
The annual Redbull soapbox derby took place on Sunday and it was too hot and crowded. I couldn't get any really good shots. I posted a few that are ok.
I am on a tight schedule and will do my best to catch up tonight after work.
Have a great day everyone.

The legendary Red Bull Soapbox Race arrives in the UK this summer following a nine year absence. The event which promises to showcase the wackiest road race ever staged on UK soil comes hot on the heels of sold out Soapbox races across the globe in venues as far afield as Mumbai and Hong Kong.
Nerves of steel and a large dose of craziness, combine to create one hell of a ride at the Red Bull Soapbox Race. Taking place on 14th July at Alexandra Palace in London the race is now open for entrants, so, if you’ve got a need for speed and like to stand out from the crowd, it’s time to get your carts into gear and apply (details below).
Spectators and drivers alike should come prepared for a day of crash, bang, and wallop! Competing teams are judged on speed, creativity and showmanship with previous designs including a piano, a pair of dentures and a massive corn on the cob.
If you think you have what it takes to entertain the 30,000 capacity crowd this summer, then go to www.redbullsoapboxrace.co.uk to enter.
Teams are chosen on creativity, personality and ingenuity so fire up your imagination and get ready to showcase your ideas. Applications and designs must be submitted by March 31st 2013.
Red Bull Soapbox promises to become one of the most talked about events of the summer and for those that don’t fancy taking part but do fancy a frivolous family day out, keep an eye on the Soapbox website for details about tickets to watch the event.
