A 20lb plus snapper taken at night from the beach using conventional UK style beach gear.
Fish was safely returned back to the sea.
Overfishing by net and longline has placed this fish on the "for concern" list.
The next time I am in New York State, I am going to hop on the Martz Bus and ride the scenic route to the Red Snapper Inn at 3925 S. Salina Street, in Syracuse. I will ask for a private booth, and enjoy some good tasting sea food. What could be more perfect than that!

The Red Snapper is a great substitute for the fabulous Red Mullet fish. The small ones would be best served simply fried, and the larger ones can also be cooked, in different ways. The Red Snapper would make a great addition to fish soups.
I'm a sucker for these old pedal cars and toys. I'm glad to see it has insurance, as it has a sticker on it.
Taken with the Nikon FM with a 50mm series E lens. This was an accidental underexposure. I loaded up the camera with Ilford FP4 but shot it at ASA 400. Two stops under. Ooops.
My first attempt at push processing, I developed it in Xtol for 16min at 68F. Grain was okay, but the contrast was excessive.
The red and silver scales of the snapper made its black eye stand out and gave a good reflection of the photographer.
Another first for me.
Was about to step of our porch with one of our dogs when I saw this sitting on our path. Found out it is a Common Snapping Turtle. So, dog back in and I returned with the camera off course. Amazing animal with a very long tail.
Just heard, it's Turtle day today, how fitting :-)
I found the BEST seafood market just before Matlacha Pass bridge. The fish looked - and smelled - amazing, and they had packets of crab cakes, containers of lobster bisque and every type of fresh gulf seafood you could imagine.
The weather may not have been great but that did not stop all the surfers make the most of the swell from X Cyclone Marcia. I really needed a bigger zoom lens to catch any of the surfers.
