Snapper Rocks at Tweed Heads - local Bundjalung Aboriginal man celebrates his proud indigenous heritage by blessing the surf by playing his didgeridoo while overlooking the crashing waves that sweep over the rocky coastline.
I must confess, I've never seen one before. He came strolling up the driveway yesterday.
His shell was about a foot long so overall I'd say his length was almost 2 feet.

Not the best photo as the subject is moving, but I have just downloaded Adobe CameraRAW and wanted to try it out on one of the photos I took over the weekend...

The Red Snapper is complete!
It only took a year.
He is made from lots of different patterns of fabric, stuffed with cotton and mounted on a fabric covered plaque.
Snapper - Pagrus auratus (Forster, 1801) [more of this species]
Very similar to the Red Seabream (P. major) of the northern pacific. This species occurs south of the tropics. The are slight differences in the bump of the head, otherwise almost identical.
They can be identified by pinkish body with blue spots on the upper part of the body. The bottom most parts of the caudal, anal and ventral fins are white, the rest of those fins are transparent.

I had never seen one of these before a Snapping Turtle ( Chelydra serpentina ) a large freshwater turtle from S/E Canada to the S/W edge of the Rocky Mountains and eastwards down to Florida in the USA .
Not the most attractive of creatures , she spent the whole time with her mouth wide open or urinating on its handler here . Not the best exhibit to carry around but fascinating none the less . No touching here if you valued your fingers please .
There was a much larger specimen nicknamed Leonardo of ninja turtle fame inside . He was caught in the sewers of neighbouring Sydney apparently a pet that had escaped or outstayed or out grown his welcome and found his way into the sewers .

The extra bits left at the end of the build. Pretty standard mix of "just in case" parts from LEGO.

January 2010
This was taken the first morning I was taught to surf, back in early January 2014. This is overlooking the infamous Snapper Rocks break.
52 weeks: the 2014 edition - week 28. Fauna and flora or flora and fauna.
These guys always remind me of soup.
Don't come across big snapping turtles real often near hiking paths; this one was fairly cooperative.

Snapper and Rocky is a woodcarving created by James Neill of Ozark, Missouri.
It depicts a loving relationship between a wildly friendly dog and rocky a flying squirrel.
James loves to create an environment of humor in many of his folk art pieces.
Humor is one of his main reasons he loves folk art woodcarving.
The woodcarving is made out of pine wood. It is painted with several coats of
acrylic paint and touch stained to perfection. The carving tools he uses are all
over 40 years old. He carves and paints all the work himself.
The size of the woodcarving is 11 inches wide by 24 inches tall and one inch wide.
James Neill has woodcarved since the age of eight. He learned his craft from his Dad
and a woodcarver in Cape Cod.
You can see more of James Neill's work and for pricing go to www.etsy.com/shop/folkartwoodcarving
This is the way the Spanish Conquistadores enjoyed their fresh snappers from the Mexican Gulf: served with a tomato sauce prepared with garlic, onions, capers, olives, jalapenos, fresh herbs, served with white rice.....it's a classic !
Issa ate this but she stayed away from the hot, hot sauce :-0
Jaguar Ceviche Spoon Bar & Latham Grill - Coconut Grove
So I'm squatting down at water's edge looking around. I see this small (for a snapping turtle) guy start to swim directly toward me. He popped his head out, saw me 5 feet in front of him and quick swam away again. It was pretty cute.
These guys always make me think that they're dinosaurs that made it.
