I'm terrible at ping pong, so I'm always amazed at the play during the Olympics. Ping pong ball and two paddles showing different sides of the paddles offering a smooth or textured surface. Taken for the Macro Mondays group theme of "Summer Olympics".

Slightly gratuitous usage of the f2.8 aperture but a nice detail of the smooth forms yet gritty texture of this landscape.

After a visit to Aberconwy House in Conwy, it was still raining. Heading up the High Street towards the railway station and Lancaster Square.

History
C20 and not shown in its present form on the 1913 Ordnance Survey. Previously a bank and with an entrance on the L side (now a window) with 'bank' in raised letters in the pediment. The present shop front is an alteration of 1994.
Exterior
A Renaissance-influenced shop and house of 3 storeys and 2 bays. The lower storey is light grey rock-faced random stone with freestone dressings. The middle and upper storeys are cream-painted pebble-dash with smooth-rendered quoin strips, architraves and upper storey sill band. The slate roof has end stacks. The wide central entrance is under a pediment, with recessed double folding half-glazed panel doors. It is flanked by pedimented cross windows. A freestone entablature has modern shop lettering, below a corbelled moulded cornice.
Middle and upper storeys have tripartite 9-pane hornless sash windows. In the L gable end, facing Crown Lane, is a cross window in the lower storey similar to the front.
Behind is a gabled wing of pebble-dash with smooth rendered quoin strips, banding and architraves. Facing Crown Lane is a boarded door on the L side. The 1st and 2nd floors have 2 windows each, all replacements in earlier openings except for a 9-pane hornless sash window upper R.

Two seed pods of smooth tare, Vicia tetrasperma. Called smooth because the seed pod isn't hairy, rather than because it's not rough. In fact, this particular smooth tare grows right next to a hairy tare, but I couldn't find a seed pod on that one for a comparison. I'm not really terrible at finding things - these seed pods are a little over 1cm long.
At this scale almost anything looks rough.
All of my hubs in the collection are stripped and have replacement cones, bearings and even the steel insert inside of the hub if necessary. They all run wickedly smooth although I have to admit to using one or two non period axle parts here and there.
Noticed this lettering engraved into the stone under one of the bridges along the River Kelvin in the West End, "smoothed rock". Beautifully done lettering, but I have no idea why it is there! But it caught my eye and with the sunlight and shadows on the stone I thought it deserved a quick black and white shot
Thanks to Olga's father we have now a unique lens! The Sony 135 Smooth Trans Focus, sharp where it needs to be but butterly soft bokeh where it is out of focus. I love it!

Smooth-billed Ani used to be uncommon but regular breeding birds in South Florida, but they have declined in recent years and are no longer reliably found at any location. After trying for staked-out Anis several times in South Florida, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to zip down for this bird in Jacksonville as my last life bird in 2018.
I never noticed the scratches on the edge. The door is only a year old!

Santana Guitar clip from Music Video for “Smooth”.
"Smooth" is a collaboration between Latin rock band Santana and Rob Thomas of the rock group Matchbox Twenty. The song was written by Thomas and Itaal Shur, sung by Thomas, produced by Matt Serletic… became a massive hit in 1999… It was the first chart-topping song in Carlos Santana's long-running career (his previous biggest hit being "Black Magic Woman", which peaked at number four in 1971).
On Billboard magazine's rankings of the top songs of the first 50 years of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, "Smooth" was ranked as the number-two song overall (behind only "The Twist) and the number-one rock song in the history of the chart.

This is the first aster I've had a chance to photograph as we head toward fall when most aster species bloom. There are several blue asters that can be confusing with subtle differences distinguishing one from another. I believe this one is the Smooth Aster.
