Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory materials scientist Paul Mirkarimi (left) and LLNL mechanical technician Jeff Robinson are shown loading a mask blank substrate for defect smoothing. Using the technique of defect smoothing, researchers planarize tiny particles and pits to render a nearly perfect surface for masks used in extreme ultraviolet lithography, a process developed to produce computer chips that are faster and have more memory.

Hamar women use the 'calabash' for many things but i've seen lots of women wearing them like a hat View large on black

The calabash or bottle gourd (not to be confused with the calabaza) is a vine grown for its fruit, which can either be harvested young and used as a vegetable or harvested mature, dried, and used as a bottle, utensil, or pipe. For this reason, one of the calabash subspecies is known as the bottle gourd. The fresh fruit has a light green smooth skin and a white flesh. However the rounder varieties are called Calabash gourds whereas the longer and slimmer kinds are usually well known as bottle gourds.

The calabash was one of the first cultivated plants in the world, grown not for food but as a container.[1] It was named for the calabash tree (Crescentia cujete). tribe/Dimeka 2010

Fomapan 400 & Diafine works like a charm! Surpisingly though, Foma is not that cheap anymore, both Kentmere and Agfa APX undercut it. It is claimed that the new Agfa APX and Kentmere are the same, both produced by Ilford. For my money, I don't like Kentmere, but Foma is really nice stuff, although it scratches easily.

My sister and I are leasing this horse to possably buy. He is really sweet and he is well behaved. He is a 14 year old dark bay Thoroughbred gelding. He will be ours at the end of the month as long as he passes the vet check

Update: I decided I did not want to buy him but my sister did so she has been leasing him for the past few months.

Equisetum laevigatum is a wild plant I see often in Colorado. One common name is smooth scouring rush, another is horsetail fern, not because it resembles a horse's tail (it does not) but because it is from the Equisetaceae (horsetail) family. I took this while hiking around Roxborough State Park with a friend.

River Dargle Flood Defence Scheme.

These images were taken during the 1st week of May, 2016. 14 months previously we'd watched low-level maintenance work on the opposite banks, and (I) predicted that destabilised sections might be a problem. To address the serious problem of surface runoff/seepage destabilising the bank structure, they excavate and lay out a drainage pipe system, to better channel the water and slow down the erosion of the banks. Yet, throughout all this work, with heavy construction machinery present, and sometimes passing up/down the riverbed itself, it's evident that life goes on as 'normal' for others. The continued presence of the opportunistic hunter 'heron' confirms this. They continue to nest/rest in the nearby tree-tops, strategically placed to monitor the aquatic life in the river waters.

X Marks the Spot

The Barracuda is a ray-finned fish known for its large size and fearsome appearance. Its body is long, fairly compressed, and covered with small, smooth scales. Some species can reach up to 2.25 m (7.3 ft) in length and 30 cm (12 in) in width. The barracuda is a saltwater fish of the genus Sphyraena, the only genus in the family Sphyraenidae, and is found in tropical and subtropical oceans worldwide. Barracudas are elongated fish, pike-like in appearance, with prominent, sharp-edged, fang-like teeth, much like piranhas, all of different sizes, set in sockets of their large jaws.

Several years later I was diving and while swimming under the water a bunch of barracudas passed beside me. I was impressed.

Edition 38 Festival - September 2010

Canon 450D with Canon 50mm EF ƒ1.8 mk2 lens

This year we decided to go back to Overstone Park in Northampton to check out this year's Edition 38 festival. There were some really nice cars in the show, and parked around it, to drool at. Some of which have been featured in various magazines throughout the year so it was quite cool to get the chance to see some in the flesh. Anyway, I took some photographs and decided to upload these ones.
