A lone hawthorn tree in amongst the limestone pavements up on Twisleton scar.

Although it was a rather dull day it was a grand day for a walk & take a little time to explore this most unusual Yorkshire landscape. We had to keep Mutley away from the limestone pavements as the gaps between the rocks were between 2 & 6 feet deep !!! & he is less than 1 foot tall LOL ;-)

Raw file processed in Lightroom 4, then converted to mono in Silver efex pro 2 using a high structure smooth preset, with a blue filter. Niose reduction applied with Topaz denoise 5. Topaz seems to work much better than Imagenomic in retaining detail whilst smoothing out the noise in the sky.

A big thanks to Paul Sutton { postscriptphoto } for the directions to get to this spot :-)

Please take your time... and enjoy it large on black

A rare, but beautiful Smooth Snake - Coronella austriaca is a harmless colubrid species found in northern and central Europe, but also as far east as northern Iran. The Smooth snake is usually of a matt colouration; usually a dark grey or dull brown, although brick-red specimens are not uncommon. The dark, almost black dorsal markings are not immediately apparent, and are arranged along the back, from neck to tail, as pairs of dots, bars or dashed lines. The top of the head always features a large dark heart-shaped marking, which is sometimes described as a 'butterfly'. There is a characteristic dark line on the side of the head, that runs across the eye. Unlike the venomous Adder, the Smooth snake has round yellow gold pupils. Like most snakes, the Smooth snake will eat almost anything that it can catch and swallow, however; they are mostly associated with a reptillian diet. The Smooth snake is so named because it lacks the central keels, or ridges on its scales, unlike our native Adder and Grass snake. This adaptation means that it is not as swift as our other snakes, but is well suited to navigating dense vegetation. Exceptional individuals have reached an age of almost 30 years in the wild.

During our Pyrenees hike I did meet a Smooth Snake. By that time not sure it was poisonous, so I was very careful but wanna to get as close as possible. The snake was getting some last warm sunshine rays laying on our path along Col d'Aubisque mountain pass. Their winter rest starts In November. It's the first time I catch a wild snake in Europe. They are always too fast for me. This time I was lucky.

Words to the Picture

After the first day of testing, i went out again the next day to look for different places where the water flow is stronger. I’ve found a couple of places, but let’s start with this one. I used two ND8 Filters, but i think i could have used only one .. i think it turned out kinda dark even with 30secs..

In advance

I took this from a small cove in Sausalito, looking out towards the San Francisco skyline at sunset. Off in the distance you can barely make out the Bay Bridge to the left of the skyline.

Okay, I'm finally satisfies with the results. I'll lay off the gold liquid for a while. If anybody wants to know about technique, I can save you 4 days of trouble.

This little snake was about 7 inches long and in my opinion one of the prettiest snake Ive found this year. He has an iridescent pearl color to him that was even prettier in real life.

Well I had three rounders today (Otford to Farningham via Sevenoaks) and Go only have two Tridents so I thought I'd spice it up and take a PVL for the middle one.

I ended up with the former PVL162, which was actually a lovely bus to drive, couldn't fault it.

It's also seen at Sevenoaks Bus Station. 27.5.18.

A very dull day in the new Forest but mild, out on the bike I went past the Reptile centre which is shut but you can still look into the pits..a little surprised to see this Smooth Snake out.
