I wanted to shoot this magnificent masjid from far away for ages now, but currently the best spot from the bridge of El-Abasiya is not good because of the construction work there infront of the masjid.

But during last Eid after witnessing the sunrise, with my lovely wife, that day; I parked the car on the bridge!! I am talking about 6th of October bridge!!! Crazy? YES may be, but I had to do it. Plus, on a Friday and about 6:30am, there wasn't much traffic to hold me back :)

I got very lucky with those clouds..alhamodlillah

Psst..I know that I seem like an HDR freak (which I AM), but this is NOT HDR btw...!! This is a single RAW shot that I played around with in Lightroom.

I needed to kill about 2 hours of my day today (long story) so I went on the bridge, which I may add freezing rain was pouring and the wind blew hard, and took photos of what's below as I was inspired by Smashing mag's article about tilt-shift photography. Got curious so I searched it up on how to achieve the same result in Photoshop and gave it a try.

Somewhere Over Utah or Nevada? 2008

I would rather be in the window seat on a plane to anywhere on this beautiful planet. No matter how claustrophobic I am, I always request the window seat. This picture is a good reason why this is always my favorite hangout in the world!

This particular photo was taken somewhere over Zion National Park in Utah, United States of America. I was so amazed to see how the earth just seemed to explode open like this. On the ground, you would never know how fantastic it looked.

Your comments/favs are the highest reward, and very much appreciated.

My first try at Lomography.

“Lomography” is a term quite unknown to most of us, but many practice it. The name was inspired and derived from the Russian “LOMO” cameras. Lomography not only refers to photographs taken with the LOMO camera, but can also apply to casual photography taken with any ordinary camera.

The characteristics of Lomo photographs are oversaturated colors, extreme optical distortions, rainbow-colored subjects, off-kilter exposure, blurring and alternative film processing, all things usually considered bad in photography. In short, Lomography is the act of taking photographs without thinking, and ignoring the established rules of “good” photography.

Source: www.smashingmagazine.com/2009/04/20/the-disturbing-beauty...

Please note: The Lomography effect was achieved through Photoshop (CS5) on this image, not by taking it with a Lomo camera. The camera I used on this shot was a plain Canon G11 :-)

Wow I have a lot of reading for you today! I hope you have a coffee, a stiff drink, and/or some good music to accompany you!

First, my new photo today is entitled "The Verdant Bough". The photo was shot at this really cool place in Wyoming I found while running around Yellowstone with my rig. I'm glad I didn't fall down that cliff while shooting, but I guess that goes without saying.

Second, I had an article posted today in Smashing Magazine. It was originally titled 10 Principles of Beautiful Photography. That links here to my website, or you can visit the Smashing Magazine as well, although it's filled with a negative nancies down at the bottom with their own flavor of commentary. No worries... I have a thick skin and I enjoy all kinds of feedback. Both articles are the same, but I like the one here on the site a little since I think the photos are best appreciated in their larger size. The eye needs to surf across them to accept all the light levels and not let your brain reject them. It's a longer diatribe... but part of the reason this blog is soooo wide... 900 pixels across for each shot.

Oh, also, you can DIGG the article here! :)

I submitted my "Lost in Winter's Fog" photograph to Smashing Magazine for their January 2011 Wallpaper Calendar post.

The nearby fires obscured the view and created a haze most of the afternoon at Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. Yet that same smoke pollution made for some spectacular orange sunset colors. This is a 5-shot hdr image. I used HDR to get more detail in both the lightest and the darkest areas of the photo. Getting detail is especially difficult for low-light shots.

It is a real joy to be able to use my eyes, my camera, and my developing skills to allow you my friends to be able to share in a special moment like this one. Photography has a wonderful ability to transport us into the time, place, and experience of another human being.

Truly a miracle.

Have you ever driven somewhere and saw something you really wanted a picture of that you weren't expecting, only to find you left your camera's memory card at home. Then you can't wait to drive back to the same place again... That's what happened to me here. Highway TN 249 connects Pegram to Ashland City in Cheatham Co., TN. When getting closer to Ashland City, TN249 becomes River Road which Parallels the Cumberland River. This is just a couple of miles south of Ashland City.

Double Cola is Headquartered in Chattanooga, TN, and although it reaches as far north as Evansville, IN, it is not distributed as widely as it used to. I have never seen it for sale anywhere in Nashville, but I once saw it for sale at a gas station in Smyrna.

Best Viewed Large.

Two years ago I published a graphic showing the favicons of places that I'd recently visited on the internet. I thought I'd take some time (a few hours actually) this afternoon to revisit and refresh that graphic. In order to see this graphic best I'd recommend clicking through the image to Flickr and then clicking on the magnifying glass above the graphic on Flickr to view full size. Best viewed large I suppose as they say.

If you'd like to add a note with a hyperlink to a url for any site feel free. :)

The image above represents only some of the websites that I've visited in the past 2 weeks. The list does not include everywhere I've been on the internet. I've only chosen to share sites in this graphic that have favicons that pop up when you visit them. Probably about half of the sites that I visit (my own included) don't have favicons. The above graphic contains 330 different internet sites that I've visited.

Some stats on my internet activity over the course of the past 2 weeks. From May 15 until today I have visited 12,601 pages on the internet on my primary laptop computer (MacBook Pro). I have visited more pages than this because this is not my only computer. In addition to my primary MacBook Pro, I have three other PCs that I use regularly to surf the internet. I estimate that I probably load a little over 1,000 internet pages a day.

The number one site that I've visited over the past 2 weeks has been FriendFeed. The number 2 site I've visited over the past 2 weeks has been flickr. These two sites represent over half of my internet activity over the past 2 weeks.

Below is a list of sites that are included in this graphic.
