Having tested the slow cooker on a chicken cushion on Saturday, I finally subjected a whole chicken to seven hours of slow cooking. It fell apart as I tried to extract it from the pot, it's flesh dropping off the bones in a very disconcerting manner.

Making slow cooked barbeque pulled pork

I won a slowcooker in a pub quiz night (school fundraiser), and I've had a bag of navy beans in the pantry for years now, waiting for the opportunity to make homemade Boston Baked Beans... and the time is now. Oh, they smell delicious! I used the recipe in Julia Child's How to Cook book and whilst I was a bit wary of some of the ingredients (minced garlic... grated fresh ginger? in baked beans??), the end result is fabulous!

My sister bought these as an Easter present, the cupcake one for obvious reasons, the slow cooker one is as I got a slow cooker 2 years ago and I really want to be brave enough to use it, hence the book.

Corned beef and cabbage, with potatoes, of course! Slow-cooked on low all day with half a can of Guinness beer

It is simmered for a long time to bring out the flavors and to allow the meat to become meltingly tender.
