Norfolk & Western 611 leading NS 958 at East Old Fort (milepost S110.3) in Old Fort, NC

Norfolk Southern #8099, the Southern heritage locomotive, leads NS 740 to the Marshall Steam Station in Sherrill's Ford, NC minutes after the sun began to shine through the trees.

Here, they split a pair of older signals in Newton, NC on the S-Line.

NS 135 rolls west by the signals at Del Rio.

NS 136 rolls east through Del Rio, TN on the River Line.

Just west of Old Fort.

Leads an empty coal ash train south through town on the way to pick up another load...

Nothing really special about this composition. I was just driving around Anchorage taking random shots of random things, people and scenery. This one caught my eye because I liked how the sunlight was shining through the clouds and reflecting off of the road. Even with the warmth of the sunlight this image still feels chilly, to me. Maybe because I know that before too long this scenery will be covered in snow.

CSXT 4059 leads a soutbound CSX freight past Moreland Park in Wildwood, Florida on October 16, 2016

NS 135 rolls west towards Asheville. Seen here at Swannanoa.

A CSX mixed freight, Train L657 (formerly CSX F794) travels northbound through the small hamlet of Woodford, South Carolina in Orangeburg County on the CSX Columbia Subdivision.

The Columbia Subdivision was originally built by the South Bound Railroad which opened in 1891. Two years later, the South Bound Railroad was leased by the Florida Central and Peninsular Railroad, which operated a vast railroad network in Florida and southern Georgia.

After leasing the South Bound Railroad, the FC&P would extend its Northern Division to Savannah to connect with the South Bound Railroad and making a continuous route from Columbia to Jacksonville. This extension opened in 1894. The line would become part of the main line of the Seaboard Air Line Railroad in 1900. It became the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad in 1967 through a merger with Atlantic Coast Line. In 1986, it became part of CSX Transportation through a merger with Chessie System. The line continues to be part of CSX's S Line, the designation given to the former Seaboard main line.

At some of my goals I had set for myself last year. One item was to get a train coming under this trestle. I'm happy to say I can scratch this one off my list. It was a hard one to do...

To get some pics I forgot about the walk back to my car... in the dark... with no flashlight. This was one last look before calling it quits...

Heading north through Colon, NC about 7 1/2 hours late. The video version is here.

NS M23 pulls out of Barber, NC, with the lead locomotive clearing the one-mile marker to Barber Junction.

The railroad crossing in the background is fairly unique (for the area, at least), with four masts without gates, each located at each corner of the railroad crossing.

I have been able to catch CSX and Atlantic and Western within a few minutes of each other. ATW waits as CSX clears the diamond before he proceeds on to Cumnock.

The video version is here.

Had the chance to shoot the A5 Convertible yesterday. Had a little time pressure, so I pretty much messed up lightning and setup... whatever....

NS 135 is digging into the grade as it nears High Fill.

First attempt at capturing the Milky Way (or more generally speaking at trying astro stuff). Definitely far from perfect, but I'll take it!

Passing north through Sanford, NC on it's way to New York.

Heads north through town only eight minutes late. That's a far cry from the previous morning when he was running over eight hours late!

In Salt lake City (Utah, USA) a few of the Siemens S70 light rail vehicles are adapted to serve on the S-Line (formerly called the Sugar House Streetcar). The S-Line has a lenght of 3 miles and the 2 streetcars in service cross each other at the stop 500 East.

I have been trying to catch a train in this location for weeks now. I was wanting the Railroad House and a CSX freight in the same frame. It took long enough but I finally did it! : ) Fast forward almost two years to July of 2018 and I got another chance to repeat the shot...

NS GP38-2 5326 (ex CR/PC 8154) is about to cross North Fulton Street in Salisbury as it leads P60 back to Linwood on the S Line

NS P87 makes the usual morning run to Bridgewater as it passes Grovestone. With the Evergreen Packaging Company in Canton set to close within the next 2 months at the time of this scene, P87 became a priority for me to document. I was lucky in that P87, the local that runs to the Bridgewater Chip Mill that serves Evergreen & the only guarantee move over the Southern Loops, was set to make its final run the following Thursday. Another case of get out & document because you never know when you may get lucky with timing. 4-25-23

I've had this lens that I cannot stand to use and it's been buried in my camera bag for over two years now. I have been making myself use it because I can use a lower ISO when I use it and I like that. However it's a prime lens and I can't zoom like I'm used to and I hate that part. I took this one tonight and I'm ok with it.

CSX train F756 accelerates past the ex-Seaboard signals in Dixiana, SC. This photo was taken on Friday, 2/2/18, and by the time I drove by these signals again on the 4th they were gone. This likely was the last southbound train to pass these signals, assuming the signals were removed on Friday. This is also about a half mile from where Amtrak would have their tragic accident about 36 hours later.

NS SD70ACe 1051 brings up the markers of a 700 series coal train as it ducks under the Southern era signals at CP BILTMORE in Asheveille, NC

I'll take the shot, good conditions or not because it's not often I'm able to catch a freight here. CSX train F742 passes the Railroad House, the oldest house in town, on it's way north to Raleigh from Hamlet...

CSX L645-03 at the Seaboard Air Line Depot in McBee, SC (milepost S. 300.0)

a bit hard to go up there with hiking up hill for 200 meter. It could be beautiful in early morning and before sunset around golden hour. prepare drink for yourself

From the crew will make a bad day so much better! : ) CSX 8596 leads an empty coal ash train south through town...
