The seedy side of Brisbane's Edison Lane. Garbage bins lined up at the rear of Newspaper House in the city's CBD. Warm sunlight fights its way into the dark corners.

Some tools of the trade from the resident chef - my BH. I liked the light play in this shot and hope it has some appeal.
It also fits in with the name I chose for a blog I've started to cover things that interest me. The connection is really a coincidence as I created and named the blog after taking this shot and it only occurred to me to tie the two together when I started typing the description for the photo. Flickr and photography will definitely be regular topics and I am blogging some photos that I would rather not "clutter up" my Flickr stream. The blog is called Slices of Ron and is at sliceofron.blogspot.com.
Hope everyone is having a great Thursday! Thanks as always for the visits and friendship. Only two more nights until the house guests move out!
At many spots on the Vermilion Cliffs, portions of the Navajo sandstone look like they were sliced with a knife—not literally, but appearing so. How this happens I am not sure. It may be a result of faulting, fracture or slumping. Whatever happened, I cannot see it occurring when the sand was still soft and unconsolidated. Notice, too, the lack of detritus at the base of the flat portion. Perhaps someone would like to offer a hypothesis.
I've seen this phenomenon near The Wave, northeast of Steamboat Rock, and a few other places. This example is at the Lost City. I have also noticed a number of parallel fractures crossing the northern Paria Plateau (many obvious on Google Earth), but they are not aligned with the four "crack" faults intersecting the canyon.

A very strange sunset sky in Marina di Pisa, a slice of orange light amidst a sea of grey, for my last photo in 2017.
See you in 2018, wish you all a great and a happy new year!
On a fairly warm, early autumn day in the valley near the Partnach gorge, the surrounding peaks received their first dusting of the season. The transition of the seasons was in full swing in the Bavarian Alps, as illustrated in this view towards the King's House on Schachen (Königshaus am Schachen) and the Partenkirchener Dreitorspitze, a prominent 2,633m (8,638 ft) multi-peak in the Wetterstein mountain massif. The small castle, built by Ludwig II of Bavaria, can only be reached by a three to four hour hike. It's perched on ridge in front of the gap between the Dreitorspitze on the left and the Oberreintalschrofen on the right.
Everyone (except Chico) fell asleep while watching TV. Carl didn't even drop the remote in his right hand!
