Slash is dead forest - branches etc. - washed down into river beds by flooding. In this case the slash is natural bamboo debris washed into a channel through mangroves by tidal flow and is essentially harmless. In the recent NZ floods, slash (debris left after clear-felling of pine trees on hills planted 30 years ago to stabilize land unfit for agriculture) has caused massive damage to bridges, roads and farm land in
the recent floods. Slash in that setting is deadly.
A wrist a few seconds after being slashed (with makeup). This was my first try at this type of wound, so I know they don't look totally realistic.

The lighting in the Redhawks arena has always been challenging. This year the arena got a new green floor covering which added to the low light. Then I decided to shoot through the glass and, bingo, 10,000 ISO! Very thankful for Noise Ninja.
Slash is a custom order for a guitarist who wants him to sit on his amp during gigs. He's not quite finished yet, but I just wanted to show him off because I love him and he amuses me immensely!! ;)
I will take better pics when he is finished.
Slash-and-burn agriculture, also called swidden agriculture, is a practice in which forestland is cleared and burned for use in crop and livestock production. While yields are high during the first few years, they rapidly decline in subsequent years, leading to further clearing of nearby forestland. Slash-and-burn agriculture has been practiced...
