This one may be my choice for the Macro Mondays theme of beads for 6/12, bc it’s a real departure from my “norm”- not blue, no duckies. The skull is a bead and the letters are wooden beads. There are 9 bead possibilities altogether and there are others I didn’t post!
Will put up the size verification pictures in a bit- each wooden letter bead is a tad over 3/8th of an inch or 1 cm.

So many phobias, and so many choices. I should have checked the English list of phobias on Wikipedia first, because there is a phobia called "Hexakosioihexekontahexaphobia" (fear of the number 666) which would have been worth picking for the word alone, and it would also have been an apt choice for Halloween ;) But since I already had a vague idea of which phobia I wanted to illustrate when I read about the theme, I only looked into the German list for the correct term for the latter: which is trypophobia, a fear of holes or textures with a pattern of holes – and I'd strongly advise you not to look for images of that particular fear, because... nope :)
So trypophobia is the main phobia in this photo. When we once had "Mesh" as an MM theme some time ago, I'd noticed that the biggest of the many tiny holes in the mesh of a small laundry sachet looked like a skull when seen from a certain angle. I'd picked a different subject for the theme back then, but I immediately had the idea to use the "laundry sachet skull" when I read about the Phobia theme. Btw, I'm sure there also is a phobia against losing single socks in the washing machine, even if you won't find it on the Wikipedia list ;)
Other phobias that might work with this photo as well are "necrophobia" (fear of death or the dead – and doesn't Mr. Skull remind you of a mummy as well?), dentophobia (fear of the dentist, although poor Mr. Skull has already lost all his teeth, probably because of eating too many "Mon Cherie" chocolates), achluphobia (fear of darkness), and eisoptrophobia (fear of mirrors or seeing one's reflection in the mirror ̵– which is me every morning)...
Stupidly (most stupidly, I should note), I thought that the image I had already taken and processed last night wasn't sharp enough. So I still took several more photos today – alas, none of them were any sharper so I picked the aforementioned first photo from yesterday anyway. Stupid, isn't it? It's a single High Resolution shot processed in Color Efex mainly with the tonal contrast filter which added a nice "oomph" to the image. I chose the "High Resolution" mode so I'd be able to crop the image so that there would be only one "skull" in the frame (the length of Mr. Skull's eyes and mouth is 1,5 cm/0,059 inches each). So what you see is a 3229x3229 image cropped from the original 10368x7776 SOOC photo. I did this because you can get extremely close to the subject with the 30mm macro lens – which in this case meant that the lens blocked out all the light coming from the left and right (which I'd put up to highlight the white mesh). So I had to increase the working distance which made the tiny holes too tiny for cropping out a single "skull" with the regular resolution. Setup: White mesh laundry sachet wrapped around the red, transparent chocolate box lid; the third light source was a soft white photo light from above.
HMM and Happy Halloween, Everyone, and have a nice week ahead!
When I took this photo at a small stream, I actually only wanted to photograph the structures of the wave. Only when I developed the photo at home did I notice that the boulder where the wave broke looks like a skull.
Macabre, or just a trick of nature?...wie so vieles im Leben!!!
Joshua Tree National park,is one of the most amazing places to be, as it holds some of the best scenery, wildlife, and geological features. It has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993 and is host to numerous national parks and preserves. Here are the main photography spots in the park that should not be missed by anyone.

The flowers may look beautiful, but some of them could really harm you, or even kill you... glad that not the roses!
Thanks everybody for the kind comments and faves, greatly appreciated!
I had a fun evening with a few photographer friends a few nights ago. Incense cones were placed inside the skull creating the smoke. I added a texture to the image.

Once a beautiful tree, today a sad skull. Carved by humans to impress, for many years, the wooden skull has witnessed the passing of Halloween nights, with hollow eyes and a heart full of rings.

Skull Rock in Joshua Tree National Park is a granite rock formation with two depressions like eye sockets created by erosion. It is located near the road so is a favorite stop for visitors. I waited quite awhile to get a shot with only one person in it. Most of the time there were several people clambering around on it. The person gives a sense of the size of the formation.

Native to the forests of mainland Southeast Asia, Neofelis nebulosa remains one of the least-studied big cats, and cranio-dental studies such as this offer valuable insight into its unique skull morphology.
This specimen, shown here from five angles — right and left lateral, dorsal, ventral, and frontal — illustrates one of the most distinctive traits in the living Felidae: relative to skull size, the clouded leopard has the longest upper canine teeth of any extant cat — a proportion that has long drawn comparisons to extinct saber-toothed predators such as Smilodon.
The rostrum is moderately elongated compared to other pantherines, providing space for the deep canine roots visible in the lateral profiles. Well-developed sagittal and nuchal crests anchor powerful temporalis and masseter musculature, producing an exceptionally strong bite force for the animal's size — an adaptation that allows it to subdue prey considerably larger than itself.
The dentition follows the general felid formula, but the upper canines are dramatically hypertrophied: laterally compressed, finely edged, and disproportionately long relative to jaw depth. This forces an unusually wide gape, reflected in the shape of the mandibular condyle and coronoid process. The frontal view shows the narrow interorbital region and robust zygomatic arches, while the ventral view reveals a reduced postcanine dentition, with carnassials specialized for shearing flesh rather than crushing bone.

Beyond its remarkable skull, Neofelis nebulosa is a highly arboreal cat, among the most agile climbers in the felid family. Exceptionally flexible ankle joints allow it to descend trees head-first, and its long tail — often as long as the body — provides balance while moving through the canopy. It hunts both on the ground and in trees, preying on deer, wild boar, primates, and birds. Elusive and largely nocturnal, it inhabits dense tropical and subtropical forest, where its cryptic, cloud-patterned coat provides effective camouflage. Habitat loss and fragmentation across its range have made it increasingly rare, and much of its ecology and behavior remains poorly documented in the wild.

Crocodylus siamensis is native to mainland Southeast Asia, where it inhabits slow-moving freshwater rivers, swamps, marshes, and lakes. Its historical range extended across Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam, and parts of Indonesia, including Kalimantan. Compared with other large regional crocodilians such as C. porosus, it is generally considered less aggressive toward humans.
In mature individuals, the skull develops pronounced bony crests in the posterior cranial region, including a distinctive crest associated with the squamosal region and a median ridge extending anteriorly between the orbits. These features become more pronounced with age and may be considerably less developed in juveniles and subadults. The present specimen appears consistent with a juvenile or subadult individual, with a relatively smooth cranial profile. The rostrum is relatively broad and of moderate length, consistent with the generalized cranial morphology of the species. Dentition is moderately heterodont, as in other crocodilians, with differentiated conical teeth adapted primarily for seizing and holding prey rather than specialized crushing.
• Siamese crocodile
• Cocodrilo de Siam
Scientific classification:
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Reptilia
Order: Crocodylia
Family: Crocodylidae
Genus: Crocodylus
Species: C. siamensis
Today, the species is Critically Endangered in the wild, with its remaining natural populations concentrated mainly in Cambodia, together with small or localized populations elsewhere in its former range, including Indonesia. Most individuals are held in captivity, particularly in crocodile farming and breeding operations. Hybridization with C. porosus has been documented in commercial captive facilities and represents an important conservation concern, as hybrids can be difficult to distinguish morphologically and compromise the genetic integrity of captive breeding and reintroduction programs.
