These packed quite a kick. Very good, though, with a touch of chilled hummus.

One of my favorite restaurants at Disney is 'Ohana. This may be due to my aforementioned desperate infatuation with all things Hawaiian. There are certainly tiki guys and the ukelele lady who sings Hawaiian classics and teaches the children the hula.

Actually that is probably the reason. This is a MEAT RESTAURANT, one of those places where they bring too much meat around and everyone gorges on steak and pork. Those restaurants are most often K.'s idea. This one does have salad, vegetables, and The Most Divine Bread Pudding With Bananas and Caramel Sauce.

Ok, it's the Hawaiian thing and the bread pudding. You should try it if you ever have the opportunity. Have a big old heap of bread pudding for me.

Just after the peak hour rush at a popular street vendor, where everything you buy is on-a-stick. The evidence of the size of the queues is obvious by skewers that are left.

Walking further in the market we came across a store selling nothing but skewered items. These skewered chicken skins, meat, liver, etc. are very good, and a tad pricey.

Sharp pointy things! More info here.

Francisco Leiro, 1999

cast bronze, 2/2

71 1/2" x 59" x 30"

GFS

From groundsforsculpture.org: "Francisco Leiro’s large, writhing bronze figure, torturously impaled as the title Skewered describes, was cast at the Johnson Atelier from an original work carved in poplar. An observer of human nature, Leiro interprets nightmarish tragedy, illustrating the delicate balance between mastery and failure, and tempering the absurd with ironic and comedic statements in his powerful, emotive sculptures. Comparisons and similarities in subject matter--depictions of human pathos--have been made to the works of two Spanish masters, Francisco Goya and Pablo Picasso, though in Leiro’s world, the rational does prevail."

We spotted this vendor on Tianjin Jie, about a block from our hotel. There was always a long line, and for good reason. The vendors were friendly, keeping a lively banter with their customers, and the lamb skewers were generously spiced and juicy.

Inspired by Defekto, I asked for lime-marinated, grilled meat for dinner on Saturday. NovySan complied, with butter-lime-ginger-garlic-black truffle oil-soaked chicken, pork and cilantro chicken sausage skewers, with tomatoes and bell peppers. The meal was complimented by margaritas, made with Trader Joe's new margarita mix -- unlike the Sauza mix, it doesn't have any high-fructose corn syrup, so it's not too sweet.

Tomatoes + mushrooms from Granville Island Market, yellow + green zucchini from my parents' garden.

The distribution is obviously not well thought out. We had way too much meat, not to mention too many skewers in the first place.

Chad is amazingly flexible, and despite the fact that he just ran a marathon the week before, was happy to model for us in any position.
